AP 15500ST supply issues

I just heard from several AP boutiques today that they indefinitely dont know when they're next piece out of the new series (e.g., 15500ST) is going to be made/delivered and the boutiques are scrambling how to handle this.... let alone everyone who has already allocated one for year will handle it. either

AP just notified me that my 15500ST grey just arrived and they will ship it out to me next week.

That weird I haven’t heard anything. Just curious but how did you hear from all the boutiques? You do business with all of em?

I would say AP is one of the more transparent watch corps out there. I had a friend receive his blue dial last week. I am imagining this an upcoming issue and IMO may push delivery dates after summer rather than the hopes of before summer.

But congrats on the Grey! I just saw all 3 colors while driving through NYC back to Boston (specifically to visit the Boutique). Blue was epic as expected but grey just was drop dead gorgeous in my opinion, Love it,

However i have other variables that were coming into play with trying to get a 15500ST in the next 2 months but a friend of a friend said he had surprise for me....and behold - he had an AP BNIB 15202 Blue Boutique watch he was will to sell to me, which I believe I will do and just get my Boutique refund once the 15202 is officially in my hands,

I have put in a deposit on the 15500ST Blue dial and should be getting it in 1-4 months. A perfect companion for my newly acquired 15202 Jumbo :-)

There must be some confusion. 15202OR should be readily available. Maybe they were referring to the 15202ST but even for that 5 years sounds excessive.

I think they are playing up the scarcity game, just been emailing with Harrods about a strap and the emails have all been very vague as if it was a bother to write more than one line, even when the straps had come in, previously they would write politely with lots of detail as AP refs are notoriously long. Sign it is turning to a seller's market and with all the requisite lack of professionalism that that comes with.

I am located in the US and emailed the Prague Store a couple of weeks ago about a SS 15202 was told no allocations but that they have a 15202 OR in stock and ready to ship. Try emailing them.

Definitely no confusion, it was much more as Neil described. I originally called to enquire about the 15500ST and was told to come to the boutique to put my name on the list. So I made the 5 hour round trip to do so and upon arrival was told by a fairly disinterested lady that the list was full, so all they could do is take an expression of interest.

I wrote a complaint to AP about this being a ridiculous system, especially for customers living outside of London and the lady who served me called me back to apologise for wasting my time, though she didn’t even remember it was her who served me a couple of days prior. She explained that the list was full and they stick strictly to the list (no queue jumping for VIPs.... sure) and that they only get 3-4 15500ST per year (... sure). I then asked about availability of the 15500 or 15202 in Rose Gold as if I can’t get the steel, maybe I should just make the jump to gold now (as I have been considering to do so for a few years). She replied that the 15202OR has a 4-5 year waiting list but she would be happy to take an expression of interest. She was at least more polite this time.

I hung up the phone and went back to looking at photos of the platinum Day-Date.

I am interested in the 228206 with meteorite dial and diamond markers, I actually went next door to Rolex after the icy reception at AP and it couldn’t have been more different, we were taken care of brilliantly - offers of drinks and showing us all the watches they could. That is where I discovered this model. It was absolutely incredible on the wrist, though it is hard to pass up the ice blue dial when going for Rolex Platinum.

I owned the DD2 and wouldn't say sheet exactly but the proportions of the 40 are better and caused me to sell it for a Patek, esp bezel-wise.

I'd def hunt around Europe before you decide to throw in this gorgeous towel. In London they might get 3/4 a year and have 15/20 people express interest, many like you an overflow from the SS, so she is probably giving you technically the correct info but the wait will probably be much shorter, but still much longer than most places.

That’s a good point, I always had excellent service from the boutique in Geneva so could definitely try with them.

The geneva staff are definately very friendly. I do have to say that, i get a similar poor treatment and cold shoulder from Rolex AD when i ask about the daytona/pepsi/hulk, even though i am an existing customer.

The 15500 and 15202 are the daytona/pepsi/hulk of AP so if you just go in ask for the models, you are going to get turned away.

Did you try contacting Rox’s by chance? I was able to secure a deposit on a black 15500 a few weeks ago from the US. I worked with Charlene and couldn’t have more impressed by their responsiveness.

They were only allocated (or at least taking deposits) 4 for each color as well. There were 2 Grey and 1 Black left as of April 6.

@karasus - i hadn't thought of it that way (15500 as 116500c) as a RO is exotic and special to me. could it not be that one can want just one or two watches from a brand. it seems almost perverse that a brand would limit distribution of its wanted products in order to move unwanted products. i mean can that work in any setup other than the current hysteria? in rolex speak we'd say the 500c is the grey's compensation for the day date with a diamond bezel. whats the equivalent in AP land? what model is AP trying to motivate movement of by preferentially distributing stainless steel sport watch stock?

That’s a very good idea, unfortunately this time round I have fallen for the boutique only blue dial, and given the new price point it really is not a watch to buy a ‘second choice’ dial for! With the 15400ST my pick was the white dial, and I’d probably go for that white/silver again if it was available.

I will take some time to look at more photos of the grey and black dial online and see if either can win me over.

I received my grey 15500 yesterday from the Bangkok boutique. Had put a deposit since early Feb with the SA saying est delivery in June. Surprised to receive a call on Sat that mine arrived and was the first grey one here - could just be the SA sweet talking. Originally wanted the blue but the SA said they had to first move those that were previously waitlisted for the 15400 blue, so only opened deposits for grey & black.

Just getting into the AP game, based in Geneva and visited the boutique store two days ago. Super service, tried on all three color dials (15500ST) that they had for display purposes. The blue was obviously amazing, but I must say the grey dial is enchanting, and the one I want most...major difference seeing one in person, it’s subtle, yet mesmerizing, and the ruthenium on SS has an effect that IMO will keep growing on me. It looks like something from the future.

Boutiques are quoting a 2-year wait on the black and grey dials, but I have come to understand after visiting multiple ADs in Switzerland they prioritize people on the list if: 1) you live in the same canton/country, 2) if you fit the profile of a desirable client, 3) if you have purchased with them before. To my understanding there is lots of playing room between these three points, and the salesperson at the boutique told “I might just get surprised for Christmas” now I Donny know how much I should read into that, but it gave me hope of owning one this year. I have scoured the net for one, and continue to do so everyday...the grey market prices are ridiculous ($26k for non blue, and $30-40k for blue).

I think boutiques try to avoid people who are intent on selling their watches on the grey market. Therefore scanning potential clients by asking for their background and reason for buying. There’s some room for maneuver here, and I was wondering whether people have suggestions for moving up on the priority list?

Maybe some lucky owners could share some tips?
