Buying a Rolex datejust oysterquartz 17000
Guys I want to buy a Rolex Oysterquartz 17000 would you recommend it? I’m assuming it will increase in value?

I have a few and when I discuss offering them as a trade item people run. There is still a mentality out there that there is something odd about the OQ. I love them (obviously), but the majority of collectors dont get them.

I think the OQ's have great upside. I also think vintage quartz will be 'a thing' in the next ten years.

I've 2 OQs and sold 1 earlier this year, but I love them. So I say forget the value and buy it if you love it. I'm now hunting for a 19018 and hopefully I can acquire one very soon.
Good luck! Sam

Condition condition condition. I paid up for a complete mint set recently. Unfortunately 95% of the available inventory is beat to hell or two tone.

I was lucky to pick up a nice example of an OQ TT.
I really enjoy wearing it. I think there are questions regarding long term servicing but I have had no issues so far.

Can Rolex still service them? Be careful, because if not than once that movement breaks you’re outta luck!

Yes I spoke to Rolex they said generally they keep parts for watches up to 50 years but if it’s a Tudor about 10-15 years. They quoted £600 for a service and £80 to just change the battery Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My AD changes my batteries for free while I wait. On my second-most recent trip, the guy at the counter ahead of me just had his replaced (17014) and that was the last one he had in stock, so I had to wait a few days. What are the odds of 2 OQ owners who don't know each other being in the store for batteries at the same time?

Just got the battery on my 17000 changed by Rolex Japan. They changed it free this time, but last time they insisted on doing a full service at a cost of about $600 USD. They also said they'll need to do a full service again the next time the battery needs changing.
Battery needs a change every two years. I'm not convinced a full service is required every four years... |

You are being abused by your dealer. Find another one. My AD installs both a new battery and case back gasket for free.

My local RSC (actual RSC, not a AD) did my OQ battery/gasket change for free (for clarity, I have no special relationship with them).

Here are my current OQ’s. Had a 17000 I bought new in Puerto Rico around 2004, from an AD. Also had a DD WG for a while. My watchmaker with Rolex in Wynn’s advises new battery=new seals.

I bought this on the weekend and just had an evaluation at Rolex, Beverly Hills.
Edit: Not sure why my pics aren't showing — https://imgur.com/a/JK24Q2O Good Condition and all original parts, but the team there was saying motor replacement if movements are sticking is $800 replacement and the first gen of these the parts are already not being produced anymore. This ones parts may stop being available in the next 10 years. So not sure I should keep being it my first Rolex and I'm not sure if a vintage piece with high maintenance is the right 'first step' into watches. |

Parts, parts. Rolex in Switzerland has components for another 30 years.!Okay it’s electronic and parts don’t wear out. I have two OQ, one that I bought had trace of water damage. RSC Dallas replaced the electronics, new service dial, and more. Rolex USA does not sell parts for their OQs to third parties. Service can only be had in NY or Dallas. My fully repaired five years ago, should be good for ? All these watches need is an occasional battery and seals. My batteries are lasting 6 + years. There are only two technicians authorized to repair OQs in Dallas.
