Rolex 5513 dial question ?

Hello! I just recived a beautiful rolex 5513 with the serial number 11xxxxx dated on the backcase 1.65, the movement is 1530, and from what i see the dial is not correct, but i do not think is an service dial. Please check the dial and the insert (the insert from what i see is an Mk2 long 5 from what i see on the internet)

Thanks

Why do you not think it's a service dial?

I am not an expert, but can say that dial is not correct at all as you have a 1.1 mil serial number watch with a 1964 case back...white gold surrounds are early mid 1980's. Very much not correct dial.

Agree. The watch should have a gilt dial.

Most likely the dial has been changed by Rolex at a service to a new kind of 5513 dial. (No-Date-Sub)

This happens all the time, RSC shouldn't service vintage watches, although when this dial was put in there (likely the 1980-ties) no-one gave a rat's-a55 about a 1.1 million serial 5513.

It's an 80's service dial that has the cracking of the gloss. Relatively common in these glossy dials.

On the subject (for the gents in the know) is there such thing as a matte service dial?

Could this watch be sent to Rolex and get a matte service dial without the surrounds (I know it’d be luminova)

Might be wrong here but think that all service dials currently installed by RSC will be gloss/WG.

I've never seen a 5513 matte service dial.

Yes, they exist, for 5513s that Rolex serviced/replaced dial before they changed the design to the gloss/surround style. For example, if your 1967 5513 was serviced by Rolex in say, 1980, you'd get a matte service dial, if it was determined that your dial needed replaced.

OP, unless you love the spider-dial look (quite common on earlier gloss dials like this), I'd track down a clean 5513 dial. The original gilt dial is already gone, so you might as well have a better replacement dial. Or .... you could always try to find a gilt 5513 dial, but expect to donate a kidney and a lot of money.

Ah I was referring to a dial made specifically for service. In your case it would just be the dial that they had on hand right? I'm no expert in 5513 but for 1016's they had original dials on hand that they would use during service as well as service-specific dials.

Should have specified what I meant. Sorry OP!
