Interesting you mentioned Patek. I have compared them side by side and GS finishing is nearly as good as my 5205 and the PP is in RG case and dial-wise and especially one is nearly 10X the price of the other. Here's a pic. As for the movement finishing, as seen in the display caseback, it's not much of a looker though, which explain why a PP still cost so much more.

About the movement yes the GS movements are not stunning, but for the price are really not bad either, don't know why but they make me think of some Blancpain movements

Excellent purchase buddy, and welcome to the world of GS! Your pics did utmost justice to the excellent finishing of the case and dial of this GS. Most of the GS cases are designed with water resistance of up to 100m, which suggested a robust design for daily usage. As for the movement, GS is claiming a very high accuracy that is as good as, if not better than, the COSC standard. GS is clearly capable of finishing it to the highest level. However, I believe Seiko's philosophy for movements is to focus on the accuracy and reliability in design but less on the decoration of movement since the movement is usually not visible when the watch is worn on the wrist. It is my logical guess and at the relatively affordable price point I applaud GS' total approach in reliability, accuracy, beauty and refinement in their products. HUGE CONGRATS again!!

That's correct, in terms of movement finishing, for the price it is good.

Yes there was a comparison on here before and really dial side GS hangs with the best of the mass produced HH brands.

Patek really excels at casework imho. I've never seen a GS case I liked better than Patek.

My only issue with GS, and it's a very, very minor one, has been the dual branding on their dials. I think the decision this year to go with just the GS branding is a smart one, both in terms of aesthetics and marketing.

I agree. In this regard Seiko's priorities seem to line up with those of Rolex. I like that about them.

No AD in London for Grand Seiko?

I actually have a different opinion and kind of like the Seiko name retaining on the dial. It give the watch a more "under the radar" appearance. Without the Seiko name the dial can look a bit more "empty".

Here are some newer shots.

I'm sure you're not the only GS fan who feels that way. It's certainly fair to invoke the "if it's not broken, don't fix it" rule in this case.

I'm in advertising & design, so that probably goes a long way toward explaining the appeal of the new look for me. It's truer to the minimalist mantra that's burned into my psyche — "less is more" and all that.

There's no right or wrong, just differing schools of thought. Old dial or new, to me they're equally beautiful and stunning watches.

Nothing wrong with the SEIKO name on the dial. Its was the perfect watch to fly under the radar without compromising quality.

Congrats Ben! I'm so glad that you have a GS now so that we can all enjoy your awesome photos of one of the most beautiful watches out there.

Regarding the branding on the dial - like Mr. Maxfli, I am in the advertising/design world and to me it is much more of a visual balance issue. As such, my preference is on a case by case basis, as some of the dials look better with the new branding and some of them looked better with the previous "Seiko" branding. It all depends on what else is on the dial, and where.

Again, congrats Ben!

I bought the same watch about a year ago. It's been worn only a handful of times and I have been contemplating trading it for a BLNR. After seeing Ben's pictures, I'm beginning to have second thoughts.

Just keep it. It's beautiful. GS finishing is a class above Rolex IMHO.

I had a BLNR and honestly the GS looks better, but if you don't wear it...

I agree PP is clearly above GS on cases, but GS is above Rolex on many if nost all aspects, sometimes there are nice Rolex pics but when I see them in real I don't like them much

Of course PP case design is better but if compare strictly just on case and dial finishing, GS is very very close. Maybe PP wins by a hair but not by much and to put things in perspective, GS is like 1/5th to /10th of the price of most equivalent PP models. A friend of mine use a 10X loupe to check the dial and case and could not spot any imperfections. They are manufactured to an extremely high degree of precision.
