Calibre de Cartier Chronograph

Longtime lurker - first time poster. I've learned a great deal from this forum. I can tell this is going to cost me a great deal of money.

My wife is more of a watch enthusiast than I am (at least, up until now). She's not a collector, but has accumulated a few watches she's liked through the years.

Bought her a Movado in the early 90's, when we were dating and it felt like it cost a fortune to me. One of my first real sacrifices for her. She still has it but never wears it. Hasn't in years.

After marriage, on a long weekend away, I surprised her in La Jolla, CA when she thought we were going window shopping and instead walked out with a Cartier Tank Francaise on her wrist.

My wife then got into Michelle watches. She loves them - but then I surprised her with a Rolex for a birthday gift and nothing else has touched her wrist in a year.

During all those years, my most expensive watches were Swiss Army watches and Timex watches.

Until today.

My wife felt it was way overdue for me to have a nice watch. So she got me this as an early birthday gift:

I have read enough on this forum to know Cartier doesn't enjoy a huge following here. But I love this watch! Interesting in-house movement, very comfortable on my wrist. I've never owned anything like this and look forward to turning it into a family heirloom.

Congrats! I've always enjoyed Cartier watches. Owned a Roadster and a Santos XL. However since getting crushed on the resale of them, I've lost interest in the brand. A great design house and the Tank is still one of the iconic designs

Yeah - I've heard that concern about resell. I'm sure that's valid. This being my first watch in this league - I can't imagine flipping it at any point. Rather, this one goes to my son...hopefully several decades from now! :)

Cartier makes beautiful watches. I owned a Pasha and Roadster. My only issue was that they both needed frequent servicing. Compared to Rolex. But they are great watches nonetheless.
