Rolex DateJust 16030 1 week review

Hello Gents
Last week I purchased my first genuine Rolex (not a homage or rip off chinese piece), and it has been AWESOME.
I have not taken it off in the last week.
It is one of the most comfortable watches I've ever worn.
It just FEELS right, like sex with a long time lover that you appreciate deeply.
The jubilee bracelet is light enough that it's never an encumbrance, yet heavy enough that it can draper over and hug your wrist.
It's a supreme feeling, like wearing metal silk.

The watch head itself is nice and heavy.. no wrong word.. substantial.
It has the narrow lugs of the classic datejust, and a high polish finish on the sides.
The engine turned/ fluted bezel of the 16030 is unique. It has the flair of a typical fluted bezel, with a small downplay and casualness of the engine turnings.
The acrylic crystal is also unique and has a strong vintage feel.
It raises the profile of the watch by several mm's and looks astonishing.
The first time wearing a watch like this with the acrylic crystal is synonymous of driving an old shelby cobra with the smaller front windshield that looks more like a formality than a practicality. It's beautiful, but not as practical as say, a sapphire crystal.

The dial is a silver tapestry dial with vertical lines/grooves. Over the years it has turned into an ALMOST creamy silver, and still plays with the light across the dial just like a new gen sunburst (just downplayed a little).

Also the 18ct White gold mid links are breath-taking and really draws your eyes towards the watch.

Lastly the movement is pretty superb. It has the Rolex 3035 movement, a predecessor to the 3135. After a week of non-stop wear, it has gained about 4-5 seconds. I just reset the time today to my iphone clock and it is spot on again. I've become obsessed with the superlative accuracy, watching the second hand hit the 12 spot AT THE EXACT SAME TIME as my iphone clock. It is so satisfying. A recently serviced movement from the 80's can hold it's own with an atomic/ satellite phone clock. unbelievable!

Now on to pictures! (There are plenty of them)

I own a 16030 as well. Love it for it's vintage style, accuracy, and lightness on the wrist. Didn't know the mid links were 18k white gold. Learn something new every day!

I could be wrong but my understanding is they used SS bezel on this model so they could achieve the engine turn effect. Because of that I believe they used white gold center links just like how a TT uses yellow gold center links.
It's a working theory lol

I believe not. There is probably one with same movement but the smooth bezel would make it a different model number.
Cheers

That is one sweet DJ. I like how the text on the dial follows the tapestry lines. Perfect execution.

Awesome review. I owned a 16030 grey dial before. I loved the watch, but I was hypersensitive to it having an acrylic crystal and freaked out every time my watch touched something. Sapphire crystal is a must have for me, unless i was buying a piece to sit in the safe. That's not a knock to the watch, it's a knock to me... the bull in a china closet. Ha!

haha thanks!
I felt the same way.
I didn't have the patience to wait for a sapphire version to enter my price range so I got this.
Plus a good deal on this model in this shape was tough to pass up

Thank you I agree!
Great execution :)
The dial is just about my favorite part of the watch.
Original 30 year old dial, it looks silver in direct artificial light and creamy in sunlight
