TRF blocked in china
I was in China last week and found out TRF site is blocked in China along with Google and many other news sites. I used to be able to use my corporate VPN to bypass the blocking, but no more. They figure out a way to consistently block my VPN connection as well. I'm in Hong Kong for the weekend, so nice to be able to get back to the free world.

Hmm, no wonder I don't see users from China on here. Strangely, china likes to block anything and everything.

They block everything there. Its very inconvenient, cant browse at all except local and "approved" websites.

Witopia worked for a colleague a few months ago while touristing in China. You might try that for your laptop on your next visit. |

You were not on a clean, secure tunnel VPN methinks. Rather a man-in-the-middle ploy. Because the attacker would be in China on a home country server reading all your Internet traffic, they couldn't relay your traffic to TRF or other banned sites. When you get home, have your laptop wiped clean and rebuilt from a back-up made before you left. You may also have some cryptolocker ransomware now, so you may be infecting the rest of your corporate network. True - this is worst case - but you asked...

I'm there quite a bit. The "open door" app allows me to access whatever I want. That's only for my iPad. Fortunately I'm grandfathered into VeriZons Global Unlimited data on my phone, so I can use all the data I want.

In some cases, I have no idea why sites are blocked
The casual observer assumes it's all about political censorship, but I've heard that the blocks are largely in place to prop up domestic internet-based businesses |

In shanghai now and TRF (and FB, Google, etc.) is working fine. Apparently, I'm in a 17 square mile area where the blocks are disabled

Truly sad that they subject their people to such censorship.
It's just another reason I'll never visit that country. |

Yeah I'm surprised about this. I'm in China right now and found I could access this site before but recently couldn't.
On your mobile, definitely download about 10 vpns before you go to China. Google play doesn't work either |

Bummer! Watches are an International way of communicating and should be for everyone to gawk at, buy, discuss and photograph! I hope someone comes up with a workaround.

Disregard, one of the problems running a VPN in the middle Kingdom with the
"great fire wall". See next post Last edited by ajax_lsu; 4 May 2017 at 02:26 PM.. Reason: VPN Double Post |
