Steel date just on leather?

Hi,

I apologize if this has been asked before, but does anyone have any idea on why rolex doesn't make steel datejusts available with leather bands? Something like the colored dial day-dates on leather, but with steel in a date just.

Id love to have a brand new 36mm date just with a fluted bezel on leather with the rolex clasp. (while were at it, can we get some of the unique dials back too?)

they made the dj in pm on leather strap between 2004 and 2013, wasn't a seller.

most rolex watches do much better without the leather straps

I suspect that part of Rolex's reputation comes from the sense that its watches are tough, and putting them on leather immediately shifts the product into a more dressy category for a lot of buyers.

But, of course, anyone with a $4 springbar tool can put a leather strap on his DJ, so it hardly matters.

A new date-just, six figure reference the case will chew the leather because the spring bars have little gap for a strap. I think this is intentional. Buy an older five digit reference if you want to put it on a leather strap. I've looked into this and would like to do it but I want the modern upgrades.

Interesting. I didn’t know this. So you basically cannot put a leather strap on a new DJ36? What about the OP34? Same thing?

That’s kind of frustrating cause I’d prefer the modern upgrades as well.

Thank you.

It was a very lucky find in a local jewelry store.

Ah, I wonder if this is why Everest only lists 5 digit DJ for their leather straps.

That’s gorgeous. They need to make a modern version of that.

I have never heard this.

No one has put a leather strap on a 6-digit DJ with good results???

You can do it, but if the strap isn't thin enough to clear the case you'll need to put a sticker or something over the sharp edge of the case to keep it from damaging the strap. If the strap is quite thick, it will be limited in how it angles out from the case -- you can still wear it, but you won't be able to lay the watch out flat.

I can only speak directly about a DJ41, though. For the 36 (or II), I have no experience.

I don't know about the OP34 I haven't been brave enough to play with my wife's birthday present yet. Maybe someone can show us.
I have seen a thread, show us your date-just on a leather strap, in the other place. That will show what I'm talking about.

I’ve put my 116200 on both a Fluco cordovan and Hirsch Duke without any issue. Just to be safe, I’ve also filed down the sharp edge of the case with a finger nail file—can’t even tell I did it and the bracelet still attaches perfectly.
