The beach and a 116618

How badly will sand scratch up that yellow gold? Anyone wear a yellow gold watch consistently at the beach? Thanks in advance.

I personally would not wear a YG Rolex in beach water. At least not a beach with decent wave action. The sandy water would undoubtedly be not good for it. IMHO, SS Subs are best for this.

No problem at all. You will see that it is just as resilient as SS

If it’s going to be your one and only, it’s gonna get scratched up...either at the beach or someplace else. I say wear it and enjoy it.

Especially the PCL's, which magically scratch just by looking at them!

No point worrying about it, watch is made to be worn and esp on the mirroring colours of the beach and sea.

if you rub it with sand while dry it will cause hairlines but if you just wear it in the water and air dry after, its fine after a rinse.

but you know, if you're wearing $20k on your wrist, i think you'll be able to deal with a few stretchmarks.

I wouldn't buy a watch with PCLs for regular beach use.

I would not wear anything shiny such as gold watch or gold jewelry while swimming or diving. Not because I am worried about the gold, but it is safer from various perspectives - wild life on the beach and in the water.

Someone is dieting? Stretch marks??? I can see them being a problem at the beach!!!

Sand can cause hairline scratches on a PM watch, but as long as you're not digging your hands in the sand or busy being a human sand castle I think you should be fine. But if you are traveling somewhere with marketplaces and hustlers on the beach, be prepared for a lot of hassling. Also, waves in beach water sometimes drag around sand as the water turns so be aware of that as well.

I paid 23.5k for a previously owned one with 4.5 years of warranty left from Govberg.

Sorry guys. I just thought saying 20 K was not giving enough credit to that incredible timepiece. That’s almost half of the retail price. No offense meant.

its a sub, maybe get a SS one for your beach days! Good part is gold is extremely corrosion resistant, but scratches easy.

It is Yellow Gold, but remember it's still a Sub, still a proper diver's watch, it can handle silly sand.

I would have no issues with a gold sub as a one/only.

TBH, I would get an inexpensive beater like a Seiko Monster for the beach though.

It’ll be a 20k after it’s worn to the beach

I do think you can get some fine fine scratches though from sand. Are you OCD with it or realize it’ll get some wear and tear to it over the years?

There’s no getting away from the fact that gold is softer than stainless steel but unless you are planning on playing competitive beach volleyball, I would be wearing my Rolex on a beach vacation. Memories with the watch are more important than the worrying about the slight risk of minor cosmetic damage.
This becomes a philosophy point of view on if you are actually wearing a Rolex or is the Rolex wearing you in this short life?

I personally wouldn’t own a watch I couldn’t take on a family vacation.

Just don't build any sand castles and give it a bath when you get back.
