OK. I think I have decided to go with the PO with a black bezel. Any recommended models?

I had a terrible experience with the 2500 movement and sold it after the 3rd repair. Most people won't but you will find a lot of people that do/did.

For reliability consider movements after the 2500. Such as the 8500 or 8900.

I did love the PO so much I got this red/blue 8900 Pepsi many years later.

I’ve had great luck with the 8500 movements. I prefer the 42mm version. I had this black dialed PO until a couple of months ago. I traded it for the titanium version of the same watch. Great watches. Excellent timekeepers.

Can you compare the two? I know the Titanium is lighter, but any other pros and cons SS vs Titanium having owned and worn both? Thanks!

I really like the titanium version. It wears a lot more comfortably than the stainless version because it’s lighter. I switch back and forth between my BLNR and this and notice very little difference. I had the micro-adjust clasp on the stainless PO but I haven’t bothered with the Ti version. It seems to fit me well without it.
It doesn’t seem to mark any easier than stainless, in fact it might show fewer scratches. I really like the colour of titanium version. It’s a bit more understated with less orange on it. You can usually find them used between $4000 and $4500. DavidSW had one for $4475 a few days ago. I don’t know if it’s still available. I highly recommend this watch. I’m really pleased with mine.
Edit: I just checked and the one for sale on DavidSW is a 46mm

My suggestion is to stick with the 42mm models. The larger models (including the 45mm that I used to wear) tend to be very large and extremely thick compared to other watches. I have an 8" wrist and it felt large even to me.

I have literally had too many Planet Oceans to count. I currently have a titanium 9900 on a strap. Extremely comfortable watch to wear for its size. It's my go to for 99% of my casual wear; boating, swimming, whatever. The watch has shrugged off any beating it has taken. Still looks new.

I agree that the 8500, 8506, 8900, 9300, 8900, 8906, 9900, etc. is a much improved movement over the 2500. To me, the case design, materials and build quality just keep getting better. I could write a book here, but nothing you couldn't find out with Google.

Look at it as 3 generations of design (3 handers).

Gen I - 2500 - Aluminum bezel. Thinnest, but pins in bracelet, rather than screws.
Gen II - 8500 - Ceramic bezel. Thicker. Redesigned case. Screw/pin combo for bracelets. Exhibition case back.
Gen III - 8900 - Redesigned case to slim it back a little (very little), micro adjustments added to bracelet clasp. Much better straps. METAS certification.

Many different color combinations depending on size, case material, 3 hander, GMT, or chrono (no black/black in titanium).

XXXX.XX - GEN I
232.X.X.X.X - GEN II
215.X.X.X.X - GEN III
