Need help identifying this watch
Hello,
I am new to the site. I recently inherited a watch from my father. I am having a hard time identifying which model it is. It has a number i believe to be the serial number on the back. It reads 554 then beneath that 37705. He purchased it several decades ago. It came with an inscription on the back with someone's initials and it is date 17/9/28. |

I just also wanted to add that this a wind up and it is before the crown was introduced. Don't know if that helps at all.

Hi,
Very nice piece You will probably find the 554 number is the model number and the 37705 number is the serial number. You will not find much documented information regarding the watch unfortunately as this type of Rolex watch although collectable has not caught the imagination of serious quite like the Prince and the Oysters. The case style is generally known as a cushion case, but looking at your picture of the case back it appears curved, which is an unusual touch. The dial is typical of this era and is known as a sunburst dial. The hands are breguet style hands. Sorry I can't can't help you further. |

I appreciate the help. It seems my Sea Dweller is much more identifiable then this one haha. I will keep the fight alive to find out about it. My dad never figured out much about either. He always liked his Pateks more.

Very interesting watch! It seems to be a combination of a cushion and tonneau in shape. If you can take better, focused photos (using the macro setting), that would help us somewhat. This is a non-Oyster case, so you should be able to remove the case back and photograph the inner case back (to establish the case material/grade) and movement. Does the dial say "Rolex" over the subseconds chapter?

Yes, it does say Rolex above the subseconds. I will try to take better pictures of the watch. I was using my i phone to take them. I am a little neurotic about opening it but I will see what I can do.
