Plz help gmt master info

I am writing to request information on a 1990's 18k yellow gold GMT master ii with a serti dial. I am not really educated on this particular model and I am thinking of buying one. I am unsure of what I should pay. Is it rare? Will it hold its value? Is it a collectable? This will be my first rolex purchase and I want to make sure it is a smart buy and decision. rolex-gmt-master-ii-swiss-eta-2836-movement-18k-full-gold-with-golden-dial-jubilee-bracelet--276.jpg

I do not believe that is a genuine Rolex Serti dial.

If you are buying that model used at Tourneau, I can say without hesitation that you are not getting good value.

That is not a serti dial...too round should be in square setting.

Setting should look like this...

This watch did come with a seri 'diamond inset' dial with round diamonds similar to the seri submariners. As stated, the pic posted is not genuine dial or bezel insert. Value of these is very much down to condition of case and bracelet. Old bracelets get stretched and a new one is a fortune. Cases get polished within an inch of their lives. Impossible to give a value with no pics showing condition. Range from 11k usd to 15k but prob more at tourneau.

Not an investment watch, not very popular for resale but buy if you like it.

So I went to the website in the watermark on the pics... They sell fakes...

Move along, move along, nothing to see here

He said this was just a pic of a similar watch, not the actual one. Either way, I think it looks terrible.

Just shows you how rampant counterfeits are when someone takes a random pic off the internet just to visually show an example of the model he's thinking of buying, and its a fake.

Indeed...it's bananas how many fakes pop up just when Image-Googling certain Rolex models.

Sounds like the OP is checking out a full-gold version of this (not my pic obviously):

Just for reference in case the pic with the offending watermark gets removed.

For what it's worth, I think Serti dials are awesome. It's true that most of today's hardcore Rolex collectors don't seem to focus on them, but who's to say what'll be "hot" 20 years from now. Try to educate yourself about fair market price and condition, and buy it if it sings to you. Good luck!
