For $8-10 billion dollars you can just buy Rolex itself and then laugh in the face of the ADs

While on vacation in Maui.
I was offered SkyD blue dial.
But had to bundle with ladys DJ with diamonds or $13K of jewelry.

Zero for me, I never had and would get caught up in that trick bag. I'd walk.

By rule of thumb then the dealers will charge the premium.

I believe that in addition to whatever real or imagined spending threshold that may exist, being a nice person and making the SA, the manager, or whomever feel important and let them do their job helps also. I am lucky enough to have a bigger than average budget, but I found that the idea of treating the staff of the AD well helped.

OP, I am not suggesting that this is what you did, but just stomping and and grunting “SS Sport Models” never helps.

I hope I am not presenting this as a game so to speak, but the goal should be for the staff to WANT you to get the piece you want.

Good luck in your quest

I agree with others who have recommended to go with a smaller local AD. It also sometimes has a bit to do with luck and timing.

Depends on the dealer. An AD in Maui offered me a blue sky dweller if I spent 10k on jewelry. Another in Michigan offered a black Daytona if bundled with day date 36.

+1 This...

One AD told me he allocates Daytonas to $1M / yr spenders in his store....some sort of gradient down for other hot SS.

My three purchases from my current AD have all been SS Professional models with no additional purchases. YMMV

Depends on location. Which ss watch are you trying to obtain?

Better to pay a small premium or even a decent premium and be assured the watch you want than buy a bunch of items you don't want to maybe get a stainless steel sport model. Unless you have a reason to buy a bunch of jewelry, or you just want to, I'd tell you to just go with a grey dealer.

You shouldn't have to buy anything to get a chance to buy something else when it comes to watches.

Not Sure about UK but in Vancouver Canada, an AD that also sells jewellery asked me to spend $40k CAD in jewellery in order to give me the "privilege" to purchase an SD43.

I wouldn't go to an AD that sells jewelry or other brands and try bundling to get a particular model. You will spend more than the gray re seller. Do it if you want the other items and you know you can get the piece you are after.

I’m seeing the same behavior elsewhere.

I’m in Maui now. Right by Whaler’s village.

I’ll investigate this week. What model are you interested in?

That said: I called ahead and I sort of got the same kind of vibe that if I bought X they would be able to get me a BLNR no problem.

What sucks is Tourneau pulled their 30 month 0% from Rolex watches recently. That and the 4% tax here were great incentives.

In these trying times, your relationship with your AD is the main factor. If your AD actually likes you, you will get whatever watch you want. Sure, being a whale helps but not everyone can be a whale.

It depends on the AD, how silly someone is or the AD thinks they are.

At my AD back home, it takes $100k in purchases per year to get on the list for any of the hot SS models. That was over a year ago now so the $$$ required might be more now.
