Sky Dweller clasp...

I’ve narrowed my search to the two tone black dial SkyD and the two tone SubC black dial. My concern is the sturdiness of the SkyD clasp. I’m getting rid of my SS gmt master ii and SS sub both ceramic. I’m used to the double closure clasp. Thanks for any input.

They will be about the same. The Sub will obviously have a little extra security given it's flip lock feature. Out of the 2, I would say the SKD would be the one for me.

The updated clasp on the SKD is quite sturdy, but you will see desk diving scratches and such. I would not worry about the clasp opening up as it has a locking feature as well that is not easy to accidentally open.

The SkyD clasp has a very sturdy feel and closure. I have an 16570 explorer with the clasp lock, a YG YM with the clasp lock on Oyster bracelets as well as a GMT rootbeer on a Jubilee as comparisons and it does not feel any less secure.

Buy it. Enjoy it.

The TT black SkyD is my choice.

Just be careful not to knock the two tone clasp on anything. The center strip of gold is only glued to the clasp and has been known to fall off if hit just right.

I like the double clasp but have worn heavy PM Sky-Dwellers extensively, and sometimes roughly, and haver never had one come open. Works great in my experience.

I wouldn’t worry about the SkyD clasp. I have the SubC and SkyD. While the double clasp is definitely more secure, the clap on the SkyD has never come off.

Welcome to the forum.

I can’t comment specially on the SkyD claps as I haven’t owned that reference but I have owned a DJ2 with the same or similar clasp. Never had any accidental opening issues with it.

What is curious to me is that Rolex didn’t decide to use the same double locking feature on the SkyD as they do on the GMTC.

It is not a professional watch

Fair enough, still one would think it would definitely suit this reference as much as any of the other professional references

The clasp on mine has never opened unexpectedly. I of course wouldn't advise you to be rough on the watch but I wouldn't think that you need to be concerned that it will just flip open on you.

Been reading a bit and not that I’m buying as an investment...but many are speculating it may be an investment piece in the near future.

How can it not be right. The Sky-Dweller is saught after, classy, and has Rolex's most complex complication in their lineup.

On one occasion I have caught my Sky Dweller clasp on my clothing and popped it open. There was no danger of it flying off my wrist and I expect it was a rare situation unlikely to repeat frequently. I was still surprised though.

Never had an issue with the clasp opening, the beak is spring-loaded with plenty of tension. You need to get a fingernail under there with some pressure to open it.

Great watch.
