Explorer 1 39mm and wrist size

I'm contemplating the Explorer 1 39mm Mark 2. Can anyone comment on this watch and smaller wrists? Are the lugs longer than the GMT master II Pepsi? I have a 6.5 inch wrist. Cheers

You'll be fine with the 214270. It'll fit like a glove and the lugs won't over extend your wrists.

I have a 6.5” wrist. At one time I had a 40mm Milgauss. Same basic case shape as a 39mm Expy. The Millie always felt a tad large.

Try a 36mm Explorer. I’ll bet you’ll find it to be perfect. I love mine.

Wow this looks quite proportional on your 6" wrist. Interesting considering the gentleman above said he felt it's too large for his 7.25" wrist.

I have 7” wrist and it was perfect fit. If I had 6.5” I’m not sure I’d enjoy it as much but I think you should be okay.

I think the Milgauss is significantly thicker than the explorer 1, same with the new air-king.

I think it will fit you just fine. Below is a picture of mine, and I have 6.3" wrists.

It wears big because the dial is big. I have 6.5" wrists and prefer the Pepsi 126710 over the 39mm explorer. If you worry about a watch wearing big for its size, don't purchase the 39mm explorer.

7.5 inch wrist here. I craved this watch for a while but when I first tried it on it felt a bit small. I've grown used to wearing watches in the 42mm range over the last several years and it took a minute to get used to the smaller size. Now I love it. I think 39mm would be fine on a 6.5 inch wrist. 36 mm would look great as well. On a larger wrist the 39 mm Explorer may look a bit more dressy and on a smaller wrist it looks a bit more sporty, but it hits the sweet spot for most.

That gentlemen is out of his mind, no disrespect intended. I've never heard anyone with a 7.25 wrist say a 39mm. Rolex is too broad.

Wrist shape is also a factor. A flat wrist can wear a larger watch and look good.

Here's my 214270 on my 7.25" wrist:

Here it is on my 17,5cm (6,8 inch) wrist. My wrists have a relatively flat shape, so take that into consideration.

I have a Mk. I in my collection, along with a 114060 and a 42mm Panerai Luminor 523. My wrist is just about 6.75 and they all fit perfectly on the wrist.

Now, picking which one to wear on a daily basis, that’s another story.

I have small <6.5" wrist and the explorer fits very well. The maxi case style models look a bit silly, for me.

I have a 6.5" wrist and owned this model - I found the bezel too flat/wide and the crown too small... but that's just me.

I have a 6.5 inch wrist and felt the watch wore large for me. Possibly due to the dial size.

Thanks for this. I might wait it out for the Pepsi then, on a couple waiting lists now lol.

Lugs are thinner than GMT. It is noticeable lower profile and smaller IMO. Still one of my faves. Here’s mine in comparison to my Pepsi on a 7.25 wrist

The Pepsi / sub have much more wrist presence with their case height and bezel. The bezel on the Pepsi also makes it look much larger width and length wise on the wrist

The explorer is definitely very discrete and low profile. If you’re used to wearing a 6 digit sub or GMT it’ll
Be small for you at first, but you eventually get used to it

Also, with a properly sized bracelet sometimes you’ll forget it’s even there

I have a flat wrist between 6.5-6.75. In real world viewing (not zoomed in and blown up photos) I find it looks great. However i do wish Rolex would've made the Explorer (and the OP line) 38mm instead of 39. At 38 I feel it would be absolutely perfect. However it's close to perfect as it is. ;)

It’s huge and disproportionate. Have you considered the 114270?

It’s definitely a favorite of mine, sits flat and is a lot lighter than a Sub and therefore more comfortable. With that said the sub to me is a sexier looking watch.

You should be fine, it only appears to wear large due to the open dial and thinner sloped bezel. No Maxi-case on this one! The solid end link protrudes out slightly past the lugs but when looking at size most people's eye's only tend to gravitate towards the bezel.

On the waiting list, every day I wake up thinking "today's the day" unfortunately every night I go to sleep realising that today wasn't "the day"
