I thought engagement wristwatches are meant to be given to men by their partner after she must have agreed to marry him and accepted his ring, the watch is meant to serve as an engagement ring equivalent.

Ouch, even my timepiece enabling, you should buy that dear loving Muse says ring and ring.

It's f...in' tradition (her words).

She did quickly continue by saying....

But you should include a watch too. She should have a nice watch to match yours.

My wife has spoken. Long live Jambi.

Depending on how you look at it.
In my family, it was always a tradition that after the man gave the engagement ring, the lady would typically gift the man an engagement watch. Kind of the equivalent of the engagement ring for men.
I received a nice Zenith Captain Elite that is engraved with our engagement date and names.

Your ‘muse’ actually said that?

It’s just a ‘no’ from us.

I'm with Jambi.

I don't see an engagement watch being worn as much as an engagement ring like I may have other watches that I decide to wear when going out.

Would this be something you wear on occasion or is it something to keep in your collection as a treasured piece?

Hmmm……

Methinks we know you Sir Style….

As Grand as you are, your post pattern reminds us of a few ex-souls on TRF!

Now to this new question of yours - the ring is better unless neither of the couple plan on wearing metal on their ring fingers after the wedding.

Not a replacement for a wedding ring for sure, but in Asia, giving a high-end watch as a present for the groom and the bride is a thing. It's been a thing for a very long time.

When the girl doesn't wear rings due to profession (e.g. medicine or just preference), then watches become a possibility. Look like my partner and I will go that route.

Exactly. Always love timepiece shopping in Asia too.

Sounds like as good of an idea as an engagement ring. But going deep into one’s pocket for baubles of jewelry in one’s twenties doesn’t seem like a good idea.

Get nicer things at your 25th anniversary instead.

I don't think it's a mandate to give a watch as way of engagement to your fiancee.....

When i first met my missus, she was very keen on the idea of engagement/wedding watches
Fast forward a few years and she changed her tune
She wound up with a ring
I might still get a watch if money allows, but i cant/dont wear rings (or any jewelry outside of a nice watch) so a wedding ring would just sit in a box for me
