My first (and only) ink

I turned eighty in June and have been considering getting this tattoo for the past fifteen years, so yesterday I bit the bullet. I don't expect to get another, but this one symbolizes a great experience that led to a rewarding career. There's transparent artificial skin covering it for the next couple of days to prevent infection.

Looks great Mr Cooper. The tat, the plane, the aviators, the cool watches, the comfort at blending in at nudist beaches… from any vantage point, it looks like you are winning at life. I feel comparatively square!

Thanks, all. In fairness, I got a lot more out of serving than the Air Force got out of me. I grew up a lot and honed technical skills that have served me well during my working career.

I retired in March, 2003, so nearly twenty years ago. Both my parents died young (Mom was 55 and Dad was 67) so I saved for an early retirement as I wanted to enjoy life for a few years before I croaked. Retirement has been great.

Nice tattoo, Stan! Out of all the AF symbols through the years, that’s my favorite.

Way to go USAF.
Going to look great when you the wrap off, we’ll need a new pic at that time.
I got my one and done ink when I served in the 80’s. Still glad I did it but didn’t want anymore after that.

It turned out great, Steve, and healed up nicely. On the advice of the artist, I used unscented Dial bar soap on it, and after ten days started using moisturizing lotion for several days.

Pretty high up on my right shoulder, Brian. A T-shirt sleeve covers it completely. This late 1945 photo of my parents having dinner with my uncle (mom's brother) shows the placement on his WWII USAAF shirt.

Heh heh... "Betcha can't have just one." At my age I think I can resist the temptation to get another, Kurt.

That's cool. I'm not nearing 80 yet, but I regret not joining the droves getting service related tattoos 30 years ago, when I was in. I've been resisting the urge for years now.
