Rolex 5513 Maxi

Long time lurker here.
I have finally decided to pull a trigger on a vintage 5513.
Because of my age and sight, I wanted a maxi dial for the bigger plots
Do you guys have any recommendations on both the watch and a reputable seller?

Thank you 🙏🏼

5513 fantastic vintage choice

Fwiw the plots don’t really help so much w time telling.

Think of the Movado museum watch.

Take a minute to compare the 5513 with a Tudor modern bb58, notice the significant difference between the hand sets in each.

I would start the search at HQ Milton

If you are looking for a nice maxi, here is one from Jacek.

https://tropicalwatch.com/watches/mecg

Here is another from Erik Ku.

https://loupethis.com/auctions/rolex...k1-maxi-dial-1

Both are excellent and reputable sellers for vintage watches. I’ve personally bought from both with no issues.

I think the OP is pulling our legs about the maxi plots helping with poor vision ... well done sir, you got us!

In any case, any matte-dial is a good choice as far as I'm concerned, but I would generally keep my options open instead of locking in on one particular variation. If you find a meters-first or serif/non-serif in better condition for a good price, jump on it.

Thank you for the quick responses.
I’m not pulling your leg.
The bigger plots are more pleasing to my eyes and help me spot the time faster.

In regards to the 2 listed for sale, why the huge variation in price?

Loupethis is an auction in progress, not an asking price. Obviously the bidding will rise before the end (and there is a 10% buyers premium), but the case on the loupethis watch is not great so I don't expect it will reach the tropicalwatch asking price. At least that's my guess. I'm also not really a fan of the bright white lume, although it's not uncommon on the maxi dials and that's just my personal taste.

That said, the condition of the sweep hand on the tropicalwatch piece is REALLY bad. I don't know that I've ever seen such severe corrosion.

At least the Maxi Mk1 Zubmariner's white plots allow for a faster time spotting...

The Loupe This one's bracelet is maybe borderline for that serial #. I would be happier with a 93150/580.

But I love the snow white plots!

The bright white plots look somewhat like a service dial to me. The patina (and the case) on the one from Jacek is much nicer.
To each their own though !

Yes it’s a auction so it’s cheaper for now.
Will have to see it end to realize a final price.

It’s not a service dial.
It’s a Mk1. The white plots are common on these Mk1 dials.

I'm sure MrChamfers meant it looks like (at first glance) not it "might be".

There are two ways one can assess the snow white Mk1 plots, either love it 'cause dial looks so "pure" and new, or hate it as it doesn't have patina.

I happen to love it as other dials I got have patina.

To each their own, indeed!

Looking at this makes me sad. Every single change to the Submariner's design since this (gold surrounds, ceramic bezel, softened edge, fat case, loss of chamfers, and in my opinion the sapphire crystal though I don't see that as important as the rest) has been a regression.

They perfected it, then turned away. We can get some of it in something like an FXD, but it's still not the same.

Maybe we didn't deserve the 5513…

We certainly do! But it's not for everybody, absolutely not.

I am in love with mine, can't get enough of its look!

Good luck. You will need links for the bracelet unless your wrist is incredibly small.

What I meant is that it’s the peak of Submariner design, but for some reason Rolex decided to turn away from it and make the watch more generic with subsequent models.

For people my age, unless we’ve got Lamborghini money, a 5513 is inaccessible, and the modern Subs don’t come close.

The LoupeThis watch is going to need a service. Hope you won it!
