There are minimal consequences for criminals now, sadly.

Was in San Fran for a car rally. One of the cars got busted in to. Lots of camera equipment stolen. Cops said they could do nothing. We had those air tags on the bags. Cops said sorry.

Next day we went to the air tags. Was about 15 sets of luggage there. They take the stuff and dump the bags in someone’s lawn.

My lead engineer was there a few months later. His rental was broken in to. Same exact area. Same exact response from police.

When he returned the rental, he was one of three cars that had smashed windows.

That city appears lost.

That said, this dude is speculating about what they wanted. At least based on that article.

Just a few years ago, SF had the highest residential rents in the country. Now, not only has NY left it in the dust, but I think even Boston rents are higher. Seems like it became sketchy during COVID times and now many tech folks are not returning.

Titus said the suspects then ran away.
The good news is, sounds like he still has his watch.

Sorry to hear. Glad the victim kept his watch and hope he doesn’t suffer from longer term concussion related trauma.

Thugs target 1969 Daytona in assault

Nice image of the watch further down in the article. Thread title should read 1968.

They said he had a concussion, and his memory was affected. The worst part of that story was the lack of a timely response by SFPD.
I live in the Bay Area, and that’s not acceptable.

Looks more like a 1998 Daytona.

SF is still a beautiful city but not safe enough to walk the streets with a Daytona on your wrist.

Yeah definitely a post-zenith MY 2000+ Daytona. But regardless I’ve seen people get mugged for way less. Very scary times

This is an early 2000’s Rolex 116520

You can tell by the five lines of text, red “DAYTONA” and side subdials above the equator.

Looks like that watch has been through quite a rough life.

I live in SF and walk quite a bit. I don't really wear any of my Rolexes or AP when I am walking the city anymore. I used to wear my DD and WG GMT Meteorite out and about, but no more.
It's horrible that no police showed up to take a report at the hospital. I am glad he is okay and they didn't get the watch

Crazy. I used to work with him. He’s a good person. So sorry to see he went through this ordeal. SF is the worst.

If you're going to San Fran Cisco
Be sure to wear a helmet on your hair
If you're going to San Fran Cisco
You're going to meet some not so gentle people there
