DSSD Set off all the alarms.

I’m a frequent flyer but never worn my DSSD while going through TSA. I’m pre check and as I’m going through the metal detector it set off all the alarms. The agent was nice when I said I didn’t want to take it off, she let me hand it to her and she held it while I walked through. She said, that’s a lot of metal lol

I had on my SS GMT and nothing.

Must be a sensitive alarm. I wore my DSSD in at least a dozen airports and never had an issue.

Flew through JFK, Miami, Paris, and Singapore all in the last 10 days, wearing my 1366610 deep sea, and never took it off and no alarm.

Yes my wife’s love bracelet always sets it off too!

Every time i went to Las Vegas, they always made me take off my Rolex and put it through the scanner. i decided it wasnt worth the fuss, took it off and put it in a sock in my bag.

Same, (different airport).

I know for the majority they will say they’ve never been asked, never been an issue in “X” years.

I’d rather tuck it away in my carry on than bumble about figuring what to do with it if asked to remove, and also create inconvenience to other travelers

That is a lot of metal. Maybe more than the allowable tolerance of the scanner machine so it sets it off.

There is more than a little variation between scanner models and all can be set by the operators for more or less sensitivity. I don’t recall a watch setting one off except one time that my Speedmaster did in in Salt Lake City. The other 100+ times that watch has been thru airports all over the world it was fine. Bigger, heavier watches haven't ever been an issue for me, but I also don't have a DSSD.

I passed through Finland last month. Going through London Gatwick I left my watch on as always and it flagged up on the screen, he asked me to take it off (116710ln) and then proceeded to ask me some in depth questions about the cyclops and how it could be a bomb

Well depending on what airport I was using my 16600SD never set off the airport alarm but whenever I was wearing my Citizen Aqualand11 dive watch on rubber strap always set alarms off.

When I worked for the DOJ, our office used metal detectors that were so sensitive an underwire bra would set it off.

Interesting, never knew they had different sensitivity settings but it makes sense. This is the first watch that has ever set it off…I always wear my watches going through and never an issue before.

My Submariner set off the alarm in Winnipeg. My JC DSSD has set off the alarm at various airports. Now I fly only with BLRO or Polar Explorer II neither of which has triggered an alarm.

Sensitivity definitely can be different from machine to machine. I have Pre-Check but for years just put my watch in my “personal item,” a small underseat backpack to avoid any issues.
A few years ago I just started wearing my watch through the detector. So far none of my watches including GMT, Daytona, or OP has set it off.

How long ago?

I've flown in and out of Vegas 2 times a month for the last 8 months and they've never asked me to take off my watch.

Never an issue in NA or EU but a lot of issues in the middle east, like Dubai. I just always take it off before hand to avoid the drama.

After my GMT set off the detector, I always take it off before going through. Once a guy in front of me in line was wearing a sub (I think), noticed my watch and questioned me taking it off. His Rolex then set off the alarm.

I found the Milgauss seems to do it more often than others.

WG GMT a lot less.

I’m pre-check and go thru the old school machines. It’s hit or miss if my sub41 sets them off or not, but at SJC it always goes off. Haven’t had an issue with my chnr. I think the machines are inconsistently calibrated.

But having a dssd setting off the machine is a good problem to have ;)
