Rolex Meritus

I picked up this Rolex Meritus men's watch recently, here in Ottawa, Canada.
The case number is 6594 sn 253480, and the movement is a 25 jewel cal. 1030, sn N724410. I've had the watch cleaned and serviced and have included some pictures. I understand the Meritus model was only sold in Canada in 1956.
I'd be interested to learn more about this watch.
Many thanks,
Brian

Thats a rare bird, congrats on the acquisition! The Canadian Explorer some say. Only 1 year production if I recall and only made for the Canadian market. 34mm case but with longer lugs than a regular 34mm case. You usually only see the "rotor self winding" on Tudor watches. Its a legit dial though looking at other examples.

Do you have a higher resolution close-up of the dial?

Here is a better picture of the dial. I believe this watch to be totally original, as I purchased it from the original owners (deceased) 80 year old wife. She told me that her husband purchased the watch new in Montreal, Canada.

Dial looks correct to me. All of the meritus watches had a serial starting with 253XXX. Ive been looking for a nice one for quite some time but they are usually way overpriced.

There's one on eBay now for $2k. But I have no knowledge about it or the seller.

There were at least two dial variants. Meritus were produced and sold for only about a year and apparently only in Canada.

I’ve seen only two in the metal, and of course a few more in pictures. I owned one for a few years.

The Canadian dress Rolex Explorer and the Meritus are not the same. The dress Explorer has an Explorer dial with numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9 and has “Explorer” printed on the dial.

This is a lovely looking Rolex.... i especially like the treatment of the seconds/minutes with the inner ring markings on the face.

Rolex with a Tudor style 'self-winding' arc.... quite the thing.

And despite the fact that they are rare, I'm having a hard time picturing myself paying almost $4k USD for a 34mm gold-plated watch.
