Safe Transactions

I’m curious how Forum members safely purchase a watch from someone you don’t know. Suggestions?

You ask them for references from well-known trusted sellers. If a well-known truster seller vouches for XYZ, that's good enough for me.

Also, what is a safe transaction? I was asked by a new member to wire transfer $1600 for a used watch. Upon checking, he just signed up on the Forum this month and sent me some email references. As a licensed business consultant I can't in good faith wire transfer money to someone I don't know.

There must be a better way to pay for a watch!!

Yes there is, face to face.

If you cannot do that then you deal with someone who has a sterling reputation. Or you do not buy, simple.

Too many people give in to the deal only to get taken advantage of. If it's too good of a deal then it's too good of a deal. We have a saying here "buy the seller first not the watch". There are quite a few top sellers here that I for one would never hesitate to transact with. Do some research. Check out the who's who section. Good luck!

If someone is a new member, then they don't have any references on here and I wouldn't even consider wiring them any money unless I was fully prepared to lose it.

If it's a watch that you really want, I would consider PayPal or a credit card transaction as, with those, you have some recourse.

If that's a deal killer for him, then just walk away.

Again, really good information. Relative to PayPal I called their customer service and they walked me thru how the seller can easily create an invoice and send it to the buyer. The sellers invoice should include the following:
1. Make and Model
2. Serial Number
3. Running condition
4. Any other important information

PayPal needs this information to help protect the buyer.

Only pay once you receive the invoice from the seller. That way you are protected by PayPal.

They were clear that the buyer should NEVER send a payment thru PayPal on their personal money program. That is only when you want to send money to family, a friend or whatever. That is not for business transactions. You have no protection. Only pay thru an invoice.

PayPal also warned me that when it comes to high end products like Rolex there are scammers everywhere. So we as a group have to be careful.

The forum has really helped me on this one!
