Years of manufacture?

After many hours of trawling the web, I'm still unsure, so I guess you guys can help me out.

After buying a brand new sub to celebrate a successful tour of Afghanistan, I fancy a Sea Dweller, but from my birth year, 1988.

My question, were any 'single red', or 'double red' Sea Dwellers produced in 1988? I can't find a definitive answer anywhere I've looked.

Thanks in advance,

Chaz

Welcome to the Forum!

Have you ventured to the DoubleRedSeaDweller.com? Excellent information there!

Thanks,

Yes, I have ventured there before, but have not found any details regarding years of manufacture.

If anyone has any websites that would have the years of manufacture, it would be helpful.

If not, is it possible to buy a single or double red face, and have it installed in a standard 1988 Sea Dweller?

Possible? Probably but please don't... A 1998 sea dweller is perfect the way it is

Here you go:

Regular production of the double red sea dwellers started in 1971 and ended in approximately 1977.

I believe it was actually earlier than that with the MK1, it's believed to be in 1969 as I seen pictures of these MK1 DRSD with case no. 2.0 mil. which is 69 era.

I agree with you that it was in the late sixties. The quote from the DRSD site, I believe, only addressed regular production. It will not be the first time one of these sites are off.

I think the general information for the OP is that it was not available in 1988.

Thanks for that link too!

It is a beautiful watch and I can see why the OP wants one of these.

I hope the bug does not hit me to buy one of these too...

Best of luck. My Rolex AK5500 is a birth year piece. Rolex was even kind enough to send a letter from their archives department confirming this fact. I'm the second owner and the original owner never polished it, just movement services do it has all the same scratches and dings I have.
