I know this thread is old, but i thought it might be a good place to share my latest pickup.
This 5513 is freshly serviced, and it's basically like having a brand new watch from 1978.
Love it.
Cheers,
-GW

She said yes, they are special order only from the rolex HQ and have a 6 to 8 week lead time to get in, and they only exchange red for red period. Your original red is sent to rolex HQ in Switzerland for Authentication, they then in return send a red service dial...

Even though I was able to prove my white dial 1680 was in the serial number range and date that it originally had a red dial, they don't care. Red for RED.

only advise is purchasing a ruined and destroyed red dial for a grand and throw it in your watch, then send it in to rolex for service and request a new service red dial to be special ordered.. The red service dials are not really seen because no one in their right mind wants to replace a red tritium for a service lume red dial. unless they don't know any better of course.

so people at Rolex Texas just don't know.. but I recently raised such a stink, that they are all informed now that they do exist and not to feed customers false information because of their lack of knowledge.
I find that red service dial 1680's tend to sell for 1k more than a standard 1680 white service dial watches when they pop up for sale.
There is a lot of misinformation coming out of the Rolex Service Center in Dallas - especially regarding vintage Rolex. I won't tell any stories here to go off topic, but they have some issues there for sure.

Nice 5513 Grant, I've yet to own one of these, but it's on the list. I could use a non-date watch, and the submariner is one of my favorite models of all brands... Congrats...

I have a 1675 GMT with the original dial and hands that are in excellent shape, but one of my peeves about the watch has always been not being able to read it at night. When I had a 2-tone GMT about 20 years ago I replaced the dial and hands, and that helped greatly on that watch with the visibility issue. At that time doing that conversion wasn't too expensive.

My current 43YO SS 1675 is now being serviced by a local watchmaker, so how much does the dial and hand combo cost, parts only from Rolex? If I did the swap I would certainly keep the original parts, but this might be a good time to consider it.

Just stumbled on this thread, very cool.

I wanted something all original, but I saw this and couldn't pass it up.

Interesting thread and it actually made me pull the trigger on this...

My '72 gmt Master which I got as a frankenwatch, is now all correct but for a dial and hands. After lots of searching and not finding what I wanted, I found this thread and realized that since I want to wear it, I'd really like to be able to see it in the dark! And this is what RSC would put on it anyway, so I'm happy. As soon as it arrives I'll post pics of my finally correct GMT!

Now I have to find something to do with the 1960 movement and rail dial I have left over...

Great follow up guys. Thanks for the underwater photo..., This really shows the benefit of the service dials..., I don't know if I would take my 1680 in the water if it has all original yellowed patina on the dial...

Keep the pics coming...

Holy cow! Did you recently get this off an ebay auction? I was following one just like it.

To continue the thread, I received the service dial and hands last week, it's luminova with tritium markings! I can wear my GMT Master!

Will Rolex send you back your original dial and hands.

For example, if you send in an authentic Red Sub and request a service dial, hands amd crystel, will the originial parts be returned to you?

Purchased last month from a local watch store. It's nice. Usually not a fan of service parts but I like it for the price I paid. Thanks - love your 1675. Rich

lights up thread..

I started this thread, and after buying, selling/trading Rolex watches on a monthly basis, I must say that this service dial/hands submariner 1680 is still a favorite of mine- perhaps because I can go into the dark garage and still see the time...
