How does Tourneau get away with charging so much?

Hello,

I just stopped in a local Tourneau and was looking at their used case. They had a used anniversary Sub for a little over 8K, no box or papers. This was just one of a few Rolex's I felt were also extremely high in price. Why the high prices, do people pay them, how willing are they to bargain. Any personal experience? I personally don't really like Tourneau and probably won't ever buy a watch there, but how do they get away with this?

Bear in mind that it is still in the window.

They can ask how much they want. Whether they sell at $8k is another thing completely.

B/c people don't do their homework. Most people aren't enthusiasts about Rolex like we are. Some people are just dumb to. I know a car dealers that told me you would be surprised how many people pay sticker....

I was in the Tourneau in San Antonio yesterday, and they had an LV in the used case as well....$7,000. I didn't ask about box/papers. They also had a 116520 white dial Daytona for $16,500. Sign me up for two at that price.

used they can charge whatever they want.... but i think they cant over charge for new watches. I have bought 2 new watches from them before and they were right at retail. I even got a 2 year no interest on them.

Maybe they display the higher price to leave room for negotiation.

I made this comment a while ago. Called Tourneau asking if they had any LV's. They said they didn't, but did have one in the "system" for a little north of $8k. What a rip. Told them I could buy one brand new and save $1200 next door at the AD. They said, "go for it, they are hard to find".

I think the lesson is ... we charge what we think we can get. Many times that cost is above MSRP even for EXP's and especially sport models. White gold Daytona ... $29k, what a rip.

They can charge whatever they wish!

I would personally make an offer (read "low ball") anything I was serious about and leave it to them to begin the negotiations.

They heavily advertise (at least they used to) and have shops in very prominent locations (high, high rent and cost of doing business). There's one in Santana Row now, in San Jose, as an example. They also take advantage of those who do not do their research prior to buying and hit 'em with full price and overpriced pre-owned watches.

This might be the reason they lost their AD status

They will negotiate if your a serious buyer...when your about to buy they will reduce the price...they will not tell you the bottom price unless you almost sure of buying..

I saw that very watch a couple of months ago when I visited their Topanga Plaza store. I couldn't believe that it was the real asking price until the sales person explained that it was a rare model because of the oval "O" in Rolex.

The price I saw was closer to $8,600, about $3,000 more than a BNIB at the BB on the second level of the plaza.

I wished her good luck.

They get away with it because some non-WIS, who has done too little research and has too much money to spend, will think it's a good deal.

Not a fan of the Big T

I visit their store in King of Prussia, PA and their prices are outrageous and the people who work there in general know little about the watches. They offered me $800 as a trade value on a mint recently service TT datejust X serial.

Only a couple of their stores still maintain Rolex AD status.

My family and I have bought most of our watches at Tourneau. They have three stores in Manhattan, so it's very convenient for us to drop by during lunch time and get bracelets adjusted, etc.

I agree that they don't discount as much (0$ on SS, 10% on TT, 22% on YG), but they do offer a) one additional year of warranty on top of the Rolex warranty and b) full credit of the purchase price when trading in, any time in the future. My wife loves their free lifetime battery replacement that came with her non mechanical watch.

They have most models in stock and they don't mind if you just come in to browse. So they're not the cheapest, but I think you do get something in return for the higher prices.

I think "T" store is still an AD, but only in a flagship store. Two Rolex AD's are not allowed within a certain distance of each other - due to the potential for sales discounts as a form of competition. So if you see a "T" in a mall with another AD in it, that "T" won't carry new Rolex, whereas the other AD will...

I was in a Tourneau a few days ago. Their prices on Rolex are MSRP - no discounts. And when I told them that the Cartier I was looking at was available for 20% off in a store down the street, and gave the manager the phone number to call for verification, he said, "Buy down the street. We can't even meet that price." I've not a clue who would be idiotic enough to buy from these guys, but at least they're direct.

I suspect Tourneau lives off of a very specific clientele - people who are ready to step up to Rolex with no time or desire to do the research. They want to walk in, hand over the platinum Amex, and walk out with a new Rolex. There are many busy, successful people that want their luxury items as quickly and painlessly as possible. There are folks who just do not shop around. This forum is read by busy, successful people smart enough to do the research and homework
