is it "bad" to "over-tighten" the crown? will the screw loosen over time? how tight does it have to be to be waterproof. dont make fun...i'm somewhat of a newbie...

Screw it in gently and then stop when you encounter the resistance. No need to flex all of your muscles to tighten it.

I use a 24" pipe wrench and torque'er on down until the little ridges on the side start to deflect, just to be sure!

Snap-on makes a little socket to fit on a 3/4 inch drive impact gun. I think that's what my watchmaker uses

It only needs to be snug.. Your watch is already waterproof with the other seals inside the crown tube, back case, and crystal gasket............. the final gasket in the crown is NOT the primary seal.

It is not like a jar of pickels where the lid keeps everything in (or out).......... the stem has an O-ring around the shaft inside the watch that seals water and dust out with the crown gasket an additional barrier - hence, twinlock. The Trilplock has 2 O-rings around the shaft inside, an additional O-ring at the thread seals, and a third barrier as the crown gasket..

If you overtighten the "lid" crown, you compress the fragile gasket and press/rub it against the top of the tube, prematurely ruining it.

Since sarcasm is the word of the day here

I leave my crown open at all times... this opening/tightening just stresses me out. just leave it open and wrap the entire watch in plastic wrap whenever you wear it
