My first speedy 3594.50.00

Hello all,

I am about to pick up my very first speedy and I am leaning towards this 3594.50.00 I am also considering the FOIS and 60th Trilogy (no offense but I didn't love the look of the patina on the 60th after I see it in flesh, I do like the straight lugs tho)

I like the broad arrow hands sliver bezel, I guess the only thing I am missing here are the straight lugs which I slightly prefer over the 'normal lugs' and I also slightly prefer plexi over sapphire, but not a deal breaker.

All in all looks like 3594.50.00 is my choice now, the price is $3350 (no box and papers), what do you guys think about this ref number and this watch? Attached a few photos

Thank you for all of your time in advance!

Oh, I think that reference is an excellent choice. The dial has an applied metal Omega symbol, less verbiage, and the longer hour markers, all of which were traits of the early Speedmaster dials.

Also, it appears from these photos that this watch has bracelet reference 1498 or 1499 (pretty much identical), which has a stronger taper from the lugs down to the clasp, which to me is an elegant look.

That one looks very well preserved. One thing to check: I've seen examples of this reference with corrosion on the central hour and minute hands before. The hands on this one look good in photos, but it's probably a good idea to check them carefully before purchasing.

Don't be surprised if the bombe lugs grow on you over time. To me, they're a part of the fascinating blend of shapes and finishes that make the Speedmaster's case a treat to look at.

Let us know what you decide!

Very nice! I don’t think you can go wrong with any speedmaster :) Have you tried the 3594.50 on in person though?

The reason I ask is that you mentioned you were also considering the 60th anniversary and FOIS, which is my mind wear very differently from this model. I recently went through the journey of acquiring my first speedmaster as well, and having tried a bunch on these watches on (albeit not this version), the one thing that I immediately zeroed in on was that case size was the most important factor for me when choosing a model. I much preferred the smaller versions (i.e the speedmaster reduced, the FOIS, the CK 2998 limited editions, and the 60th anniversary), so I limited my decision to those models.

Others with more knowledge can chime in here, but I believe the 3594.50 replica is a 42mm case, which would put it more on par with the classic speedmaster professional. If that is the case, I would try one of those on for size and go with the replica if the broad arrow hands are the major selling point. Personally the hesalite is one of the major selling points for me, so if I went with a 42mm version it would probably be a new/vintage speedmaster professional with the classic black bezel and hesalite crystal, which you should be able to find at a pretty similar price point.
