IWC too dressy?
How about their Spitfire or Aquatimer?

Got out of Rolex to get into another line.

Right now I'm in line for an FPJ.

It's a pretty narrow view of the watch world for those who think Rolex are above this and below that.

Thanks to the Rolex shortage I’ve found Tudor and may never go back. OK I know Tudor is a division of Rolex but the styles and quality at approximately 1/2 the price is undeniable. Oh, and you can actually buy one !

Have you considered Hublot ?

That should quieten the pesky co-workers down

I’d recommend Blancpain, fifty fathoms range are a great sport alternative.
The new Cartier Santos also worth a look.
Both can be bought new with good discount and readily available

I couldn't agree more! I just bought a TUDOR GMT yesterday from my local AD with ZERO intention of buying anything, let alone a TUDOR. I had looked at the ETA Black Bay several years ago and was pleased but was not sold. Which is why i had been looking at Rolex, Omega, Panerai, Bulgari all in the $5-9k

I know on paper the Omega offers more for the money and would be the logical choices. But frankly the Tudor had more value and personality. Something i will share in a thread when i have more time.

Increase MRSP so that there can be balance between MRSP and the secondary market .

Before that happens,we will continue to have:

Unscrupulous AD conduct
Sales people drawn into conduct that gets them fired
ADs losing licenses to sell Rolex
Awful Flipperman and the whole city of Flipperville .
Wasting tens of thousands of dollars on worthless jewellery .
Envelopes of cash to dealers as incentive.
Buying nonsense brands just to get access to a Rollie.
Ass crawling at dealers.
Useless gifts to the sales person .
Empty displays.
No stock
Waiting for don't know really what ,don't know really when .

Best scenario is when your Rollie keeps its value well and even increases over time .NOT when its worth 2x or 2.5X the moment you leave the AD.
Who can afford to scratch the little precious ??

It's all about balance. So make up your own mind and try to ignore the fomo trends etc.

If you worry about what other people think you will never be happy.
An omega can cost more than a Rolex and can equally be sought after (snoopy , 321 etc...) but your friends won't know that so you will still feel insecure.
I think you should stick to Rolex to keep your friends happy and your mind at ease.
Once you start appreciating the mechanics and history of other brands, then its time to spread your wings and start enjoying the hobby, you'll get more enjoyment out of it.

I wouldn’t worry what others have to say. If someone is willing to judge you on your watch, they have issues way beyond a watch. I also work in NYC, and I doubt people are looking at your wrist. More like making sure your wearing a mask.

Having a Rolex, doesn’t mean you can’t wear other brand watches. I have a SS SubDate, 36mm DateJust, and a 39mm OP. I find myself wearing my Seiko Sarb033, Casio DW5600-BB, and my favorite is my Casio “ World Time.” They get more wrist time, than any of my Rolex watches. I’m a watch enthusiast, and enjoy different brands. I’m interested in the Tudor Black Bay 58, black dial. I like the size, and to me, has some character.

I suggest you buy what you like, and not worry about others.

It’s like saying you’d change sexuality because you can’t get some.

Exactly.

That's how it was when i started buying Rolex's years ago. None of this insanity existed. If I were starting out, I'd not pay over MSRP or even need to. I'd get the easier to get models eventually and frankly this market, although 'rational' would turn me off at any age and at any amount of money I had.

I know others feel very differently and I understand others should do what's best for themselves and pay up for models they want, if that's what they wanna do.

Not for me, not about the money.

So many amazing watches out there. Confidence comes from the inside not from material things. Obviously, otherwise it's a slippery slope and you will never feel good and solid about anything.

Just buy what you like that is available and you can afford.

Snobbery and flouncing have got nothing to do with watches. Don't blame the watch.

If you're wearing a watch to impress other people you need to take a long good look at yourself.

If you’re worried about the opinions of people who think that Rolex is the best watch on he market then... well I don’t know what else to say.

I think it is good to be happy with what Rolex watch / watches you have then keep them and diversify. I have had Rolex since my mid 20’s so over 20 years and had 6694s. One of them was immaculate, 10 years old when I bought it but had only been worn once a year by the previous owner on his birthday!

As the fashion for larger gents watches kicked in I fell out of love with the 6694 so sold it and had a break from Rolex for a few years. Got a vintage Omega Geneve which I really appreciated and a nice Tissot Couturier Automatic as a daily. But, I’ve got to say I always missed having a Rolex so 2 years ago I got a Tudor BB41 Blue Dial which was lovely but felt just a bit too big for my 6.75 inch wrist.

Fast forward to last summer and I got made redundant after 20 years but got a big pay off and walked straight into a similar job. So, I celebrated by getting a new Explorer 39mm and trading in my BB41 Blue Dial. What I am getting to eventually is, I love that watch and it is the perfect size for me at 39mm but I missed having a Tudor. I love having the Explorer and couldn’t be without it but I love Tudor as well now and instead of getting another Rolex and playing the AD games I would rather have another 2 or 3 Tudors for the same price. I got the Black Bay 58 Blue last month and it wears pretty similar to my Explorer. The quality is great and if I compared it with my old 6694 the bracelet and clasp is a vast improvement.

I think we sometimes forget how fortunate we are - the Explorer was a significant sum of money for me to part with and justify to myself and the BB58 although not a Rolex is for many people too much money for a watch. Appreciate the more important things in life like your family and their health and don’t worry about what shallow people think. If people want to judge you just by the watch you wear they really are not worth knowing.

Winst, don't kid yourself. Tudor is a Rolex (well what Rolex were 10 years ago). The BB58 in either colour is almost perfect. I have the blue and have worn it constantly since getting it. I gave up on Rolex a few years ago, having kept the ones I already had.

Don't miss the constant battles with ADs one bit. I actually enjoy my Tudors more than my Rolexes purely because they are tool watches and most people don't have a clue what it is.

That's how I like it

I've always loved Rolex since my youth but your friends and colleagues attitude to watches is what is putting me off Rolex at the moment. I wear my Speedmaster Reduced more now and love it. Far more accurate as well than any Rolex I've ever had.

Of course only my opinion but that is what you are asking.

I play and dabble with; Omega, Tag, Breitling, Panerai, Doxa and B&R

Other brands either are too expensive but I would own one; AP, Lange, Patek or I just don’t like what they offer.

Lastly the next brand I think I am going to buy is Zenith.
