Incoming and Observations of my new 3861 Speedmaster Pro

Hi all,

Though I’d share my observations of my brand new Hesalite 3861 Speedmaster Professional. No disrespect here, I’ve owned the prior 1861 a couple of times and there were a couple of things that I just couldn’t get over:

1. Lack of hacking seconds
2. The prior bracelet with end links that didn’t allow the watch and bracelet to wrap nicely around my wrist

The new 3861 iteration of the Moonwatch has quite a few improvements that pushed me to try it again. I wasn’t able to see one in the flesh, but an Omega boutique not far from me had a Hesalite available on bracelet, so I jumped on it.

I’ve been wearing the watch for a couple of days and have been really blown away with the improvements.

First, the bracelet for me, is a game changer. I think it looks amazing and makes wearing the speedy SUPER comfortable. It just kind of melts into my wrist and I forget that it’s there a lot of the time. I’ve read a lot of dislike on other threads/forums about the taper from 20mm down to 15mm as well as the small clasp. I think they are both great. The taper makes the bracelet very comfortable especially when bending my wrist.

Second, it has hacking seconds! I can finally wind my speedy, pull out the crown, and sync the time to the atomic clock! A weird quirk for me, but it makes me happy that I can do that now.

Third, the stepped dial makes a huge difference in creating additional depth/dimension to the dial. Which, for me, is way more aesthetically pleasing. The black of the dial is also deeper and not as much of a matte finish, like before. The white text on the black dial really pops! It also appears that the lume indices have been placed flush into the dial rather than printed over the top.

Fourth, the accuracy of the 3861. I’m at +1 second over the last 48 hours. Really impressive. The prior 1861 Speedmasters that I’ve had were all in the 8-10+ seconds per day range.

Fifth, winding the movement is so much easier. With a more pronounced crown and the fact that it sticks out farther from the case, winding is a breeze. The resistance while winding feels good too, not too much but not too loose.

Overall, I think that the improvements are outstanding. I’m really happy with them and happy to share my observations with all of you. If you are considering one, buy it. Oh, and the smaller box- not a big deal for me. I wear the watch, not the box.

I hope this helps anybody considering the new 3861 Speedmaster Professional.

Thanks for your review David, great to have your thoughts

Another reviewer here thought the bracelet was uncomfortable and pulled at his skin due to the shape of the links ... I’m glad to hear that for you it’s comfortable.

I’m excited to try one when my AD reopens

Hey Brian- happy to share my thoughts with TRF. I think you’ll be surprised when you try it on. There’s something kind of magical about the new version.

Thanks for the review! I got to see one last week at my local Omega Boutique and they are impressive! The bracelet in particular was incredibly comfortable.

Congrats! It’s funny, all the reasons you prefer the 3861 are all the reasons I prefer the 1861. Small details across all the models since the beginning, but they all add up such that everyone can find their very own perfect moonwatch

I think the ultimate success is going to be what the pricing washes out at. For now, they’re going at MSRP from boutiques and it will be interesting if in a year from now they’re being discounted at ADs. And if so, by how much.

If they’re going to be producing these in numbers similar to the 1861 models I don’t see strict adherence to MSRP holding up.

Thanks for the review. I currently on the fence between the discounted 1861 and the new one (mostly for the bracelet).

You won’t be disappointed. The new bracelet really changes the feel of this watch on the wrist.

The Speedy is the only modern Omega that i like, and boy do i like it. I have an old ‘Reduced’ that works perfectly for me, but if i had bigger wrists I’d go for this new reference in a heartbeat.

Congrats, looks great on you.

Beautiful dial, nice bracelet but fugly clasp....what was Omega thinking?? I've already been offered a slight discount from my AD on one of these but at a 20% discount, on the 1861, I chose that instead ($4200 vs $6300....c'mom). 3861s will be at 20% discounts, within one year or sooner, as the price increase will be hard to stomach for many along with them being the standard production model, availalble for years to come.

Really fantastic photos, thanks for posting more! The hesalite version has really grown on me. I like the fully brushed bracelet with hesalite and black ring.

Good review

Been looking at some of the reviews on YouTube as well & everyone seems to positive about the changes

Can’t believe the hike in price especially since the last price increase was only about 8 months ago. I think this time last year it was priced right/ a lot of people will think twice now.

Don't be surprised if it goes up even more within this year.
