I don't think OP is being unreasonable at all. He asked for no polishing and they polished it. It's very simple, they did something they weren't supposed to. Personally I would be pretty upset as well.

BTW...It's not like AP is some small 1-man company either, they are a multibillion dollar company with huge margins.

+1

the internet always surprises me, especially when bn $ corporations make a mistake and people complain, there is always someone that feels the need to defend them.

Guys, I know how you feel empathy towards OP and all.. But come on, let's be realistic, AP doesn't owe you anything. Mistakes are made and it is human nature to make mistake. No point giving comments such as this or ask them to put the scratches back. If you are not open to these kind of "unintended" mistake, then please stay away from watch collecting and find yourself another hobby. It is really ridiculous and childish seeing all these stupid comments flying all over the forum. The purpose of the forum is to share experience and not these kind of "not constructive" feedback. It really pisses people off..

hard to tell from this one photo but looks like they did a great job. Not sure what you are frustrated with? If you want scratches, just wear it everyday.

Looks great to me. At end of day, AP will not ruin a polishing job. The bezel looks to have plenty of meat on it.

Wear and enjoy!

Gotta agree with the others...I think it looks great. Edges remain sharp and the bezel looks just like new and to me from that pic I wouldn't even know it had been polished.

I can't comment on the "emotional element" as that's for you to decide. And, I agree you shouldn't have to pay for it, but if it was included in the cost there's not much you could really do.

Can you take an “after” photo in the same angle as your “before” just for ease of comparison?

But from what I can tell, your watch looks great.

Completely non relevant comment, I always wonder why the PP 5712 has people going bonkers but this watch doesn't have people going bonkers collectibility wise.

Anyways, to OP, glad you are happy with the watch again!

It seems that a more appropriate title/sentiment for this thread is ‘wow what a great finish’.

Great finish, great watch, great re-appraisal of your initial tantrum :) Kudos and enjoy, it looks awesome.

maybe I am missing something, wasn't OP mad because

a) polishing can have a negative impact on resale value

b) each watch has only so many re-polishings left before the edges are not as sharp etc and hence he was frustrated that his watch got polished even though he specifically said not to do it.

Even though I agree that they did a good job, isn't this irrelevant?

Actually curious if I am correct, especially in regards to b), so correct me if I am incorrect.

Bezels can be done circa 5 times

I think it turned out great and this gives me confidence to allow AP to polish my watch when the time comes.

I don’t really care what someone else will be able to sell my watch for in 50-60 years and I’m not particularly fond of scratches but I am concerned with over polishing as other have pointed out. So it’s good to see that doesn’t appear to be a concern with AP.

However, all of that is irrelevant considering the OP requested them not to polish the watch. While we all agree it looks great, it’s not what the OP requested and that’s a bummer.

brother this is a blessing in disguise....go complain a bit ( politely as possible ) and use this as some pull towards getting a hard to get piece. Managers and Sales Associates generally like to keep people happy. Im sure they do feel bad about an unhappy customer. So make it work to your advantage.

If yes, then really not the end of the world if over-polished.
