IWC Aquatimer

I am wondering if anyone can give me some insight on these watches. Does anyone know if IWC plans on adding an all black bezel to their collection. I noticed they only have the 2 tone bezels in their lineup. I haven't actually seen one of these models in person so any help would be appreciated on their fit, quality and look. In terms of quality, are they even close to being on the same page as a Rolex Sub or any of the other higher end Diving watches? Thanks again!

I'm not sure about the all-black bezel and personally never owned one but knowing the reputation of IWC's quality I wouldn't be worried about them being possibly bad compared to Rolex or Omega when it comes to diver's watches!

I've owned a few Aquatimers over the years and I still own one (Ti Split-Minute Chronograph). They are a fine diver's watch. The now discontinued internal bezel models were great to look at, but terrible in use. With the current external bezel models they are now easier to use but they look much like another other diver's watch.

Having said that, the build quality is first rate - like most IWCs - but they wouldn't be first on my list for a new diver. And I say this as a long time IWC fan.

There are no plans for an all black bezel anytime soon ... but how knows what SIHH 2012 will bring (happening this weekend through next week).

I have the older model aquatimer, with the internal bezel. I wore it for a year and a half every day. The quality was/is fantastic. It wear pretty big on the wrist, at least to me. I haven't worn it much since buying my sub. My dad actually has been wearing it, next time I go to my parents I'll have to get it back...

IWC's are amazingly well built watches. I've got a couple now that are 5 and 10 years old which both test out on the vibrograf to keeping within +-2 seconds per day. They are very much on par with Rolex's build quality and you definitely won't be disappointed.

A) IWC will probably not make an all black bezel, their two colored ones are a way to differentiate

B) Their divers use true and tested ETA movements, very sturdy and great accuracy. But not in-house.

C) IWC have some quirks:

- Proprietary bracelets and straps. As much as I like the moderns AT diver (3568) I hate the quick-change strap thingy. You can't put it on a NATO/ZULU or whatever strap you want. #fail.

- It is rather thick and boxy in the design. Sharp edges. It is definitely a tool piece, not with high refinement. They sit a bit too high on the wrist for my taste.

- Don't keep their value very well compared to a Submariner. Then again, almost nothing does.

Overall, I think they are very nice watches, good and efficient use of ETA movements which they redo and calibrate to IWC standards. It is a Richemont Group brand... If it sings to you, by all means get one, but I'd ask for at least a 20% discount. Personally I much prefer a Submariner to an Aquatimer when I put them side by side, but I have been thinking of adding a used IWC on a rubber strap to the collection as a pure sport watch.

In response to Patrick's post and a follow-up to mine.

The bracelets can be...different...you'll definitely want to try one on for a while before taking the plunge. Many find them to be uncomfortable and don't sit well on some people's wrist (AP's bracelets are this way with me).

The re-sale value does not hold as well, unless you are dead set on keeping it for life, then purchased pre-owned. They can be found for very good prices and most are in great shape.

I love mine. I have the white dial and have had it about a year. I did have one problem where it started to run fast so I sent it back to have it regulated. AD was going to do it but opening the case would have voided the remaining year on my warranty. If you are going to buy one and like the bracelet, but it that way from the AD. If you decide to add the bracelet later, retail is $1750 and there is little room for discounts. I went with the white dial since I thought the yellow was a little too much for me.

The black yellow combo is gorgeous. The ceramic bezel is clean and smooth. It wears very comfortable an it surprising as it 44mm. I believe 42mm is the perfect sized watch so I was a tad disappointed when IWC went to 44mm. However, I've worn and no problem. Your are stuck with their straps, but they make a nice strap, the rubber is oh so comfortable. Prices don't hold so they are an incredible bargain on the used market. Extremely high quality watch at an Omega Planet Ocean price. With used prices in the low 3's they are an incredible bargain. Great watch! I just would not recommend buying new due the precipitous initial price drop.

I've got a 1970s IWC, but the inner bezel doesn't turn. Anyone know where I could get a part for that watch?

Best bet is to send it to IWC. May need to go to CH for repairs.
