Rolex to release new models at their fifth ave location?
Has anyone heard this? Everest Bands is claiming Rolex has been contacting their dealers/buyers to advise them they will be presenting the new releases at their fifth ave location around the same time as baselworld would have been. Has anyone heard this from any of their dealers? I wonder how verifiable this is. One would think Rolex has to notify their dealers soon so they can make travel arrangements.

Maybe then we can finally put the nail in the coffin of yearly rumors that the Smurf will come out in SS. I am biased as I own a Smurf.

Don't know about the rumor, but it would make sense.
Rolex is geared up and producing whatever model changes that their business plan has established going forward. They have already stopped shipping older iterations in preparation for new stock, so, at some point they will/need to ship product. That product will be whatever they have warehoused for release after Basel.

The only negative there is that the Boutique is not very big. It would not hold many press members, VIP’s, and Rolex execs at the same time.

I also heard that there would be a launch event at Watches of Switzerland in Regent Street in London (very large venue).

Cannot see this happening myself although Rolex USA is a separate company from Rolex SA.

That would be a good thing as at least it would provide people some sense of normalcy and something to get excited about.
It's getting depressing when all you see is "Coronavirus this" or "confirmed cases that" on the news. |

You’re right. I’m not sure if I’m ready to buy a new watch, even if they were available. But as a watch fan, I’m excited to see what’s new! |

They have to announce the new models somewhere. But, just because they'll be released at the 5th Ave. location doesn't mean they won't be released at the same time in other locations worldwide. Everest would only have been told about the one relevant to Everest, after all.

I haveno idea. However, the timing makes sense. No idea where they will anounce, but even though Basel is cancleled, Rolex is likely still on the same timeline as far as getting everything prepared and ready for an announcement.
No clue where they will announce, but around the same time as the scheduled Basel makes total sense. |

I agree that something like this is likely to happen, but why would Rolex contact Everest dealers about this?

I heard from my AD it would be in New York City but they didn’t know anymore. That was last week. So it tracks.

I don’t think the logistics are feasible.
First, why only 5th Avenue? What about simultaneous reveals in London, Paris, HK, etc. I doubt enough models would be available to do a global launch. Outside of logistics, the coronavirus would likely reduce any turnout in major metro centers. It would be better to do the streaming global launch with major fanfare and presentations like Apple has for years now. Then let a roadshow follow with new models like they’ve done after Basel like they’ve done for the past decade or more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

My understanding is because of US Anti-Trust laws decades ago it was better to establish an independent importer/distributor here versus a direct branch of the manufacturer. Think about how foreign car manufacturers and their dealers are set up here.
I think the lines have been blurred somewhat over the years but it’s still safe to say RolexUSA is mostly autonomous in its policies and decision making. |

I was also told this was the plan yesterday. The Tudor rep was in my AD when I stopped by. Said the invite list would be extremely limited, probably not even VIPs, but only high volume ADs and very limited press. Also said that depending on the state of the virus situation, they will cancel at a moment’s notice.
Take it for what it’s worth, but sounded genuine... |
