This or that?!

Hi guys,

I have a problem and I need your help! I have started to look for a second watch and currently, I have narrowed it down to these 2 beauty's:

The 116618LN gold Rolex Submariner Ceramic:

Or the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Openworked Selfwinding

I own a steel Rolex SubC 116610LN and that's what makes if so difficult! I would like to have a gold watch but if I pick the gold SubC, then I would have 2 of the "same" watches (you know what I mean ;)). If I pick the AP, it will be "again" be a steel watch. The SubC has a date what is handy at work and I have always loved a gold Submariner, but the AP is more "Haute Horlogerie" for me...

I also think same will be in the same price range, no?

So guys, please, I want to know your opinions!

Thanks!

The RO openworked all day any day. If you really want gold then look at a RO or ROC in gold.

I'll have to go with some other people in this thread and suggest a gold RO but in between those two (and as much as I love gold watches) I'd have to go with the AP open work. Perhaps you could also sell you stainless steel Submariner and get yourself a nice two-tone watch to have some gold in your collection.

I hate to say it but I'd get the 116618... Rolex represents the best value in an all gold sports watch. Try pricing a similar gold watch from AP - very expensive. Sell your 116610 then get the Openworked RO w/ date. Who says you can't have your cake and eat it?!

I would get a gold AP ROC or RO but if you really want a Rolex I would get the GMTc YG as you have the SS subc and as a pilots watch its more suited to all gold than a diver.

I know this isn't a joke, but are you kidding me right. The gold sub is nice, but a Royal Oak Open worked--come on. No question, and not because you are in the AP forum. Those watches are night and day IMHO. Get both if you can, but the AP no doubt first. That's a stunner.

The gold will scream wealth loudly.

The AP Openworked will show smooth class

Hmmm, to a watch lover the AP will also scream wealth very loudly. It's not what I would call smooth class as it's still a very showy watch.

I'd go for the Gold Submariner in a heartbeat. It's stunning looking.

Most people haven't heard of AP. That's why I like AP - quiet elegance.

To a watch connoisseur, yes the AP speaks volumes.

I'm sure you agree that there are more people 'out of the know'

AP all day.

However, if you are insisting on a gold watch my choices (within the price range) would be:

1- ROC RG
2- GMTc Gold

Actually AP has become very recognizable especially the Offshores. But of course Rolex is, from what I've heard, the 2nd most recognizable name after Coca Cola.

And getting back to pietermann's original question, I'd go for the Rolex first and later get the AP. Both are completely different and you will long for both. If I had to choose one, it would be the AP without a doubt.

Mike, what is this model number? I never seen an Open with a date function...

For the OP, the AP Open any day!!!
