The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical

The mail today delivered to me one of Hamilton's new 38mm field watches.

Very nice piece for under $500 shipped from Hodinkee.

Here are the stats:

Model: Khaki Field Mechanical
Reference: H69429931
Functions: Hours, minutes, seconds
Material: Stainless steel
Dimensions: 38mm diameter; 9.5mm thickness
Caseback: Closed stainless-steel back
Dial: Black dial with 12 and 24-hour scales
Lume: Vintage-style SuperLuminova
Caliber: Manual-winding ETA 2801-2
Power Reserve: 42 hours
Water Resistance: 50 meters
Bracelet/Strap: Green textile strap
Lug Width: 20mm
Manufactured: Switzerland

I was first drawn to this one by the strap, but I don't love it in person. I think a leather or just regular gray NATO is going to be the way to go.

The "Vintage-Lume" is much better on the wrist than in photos, it is subtle, not over the top. It looks like a well-executed color choice, not a sign screaming "Hey look, I look vintage!!".

On the wrist it really is a perfect size, I was between this and the Tudor Ranger, and what I realize getting this in hand is that I really want a 38mm Ranger.

I would say the best thing this watch has going for it is legibility, it is super easy to see exactly what time it is right away, the dial layout nails that purpose, which is after all THE purpose.

On the fence on keeping this or spending a bit more and picking up a Ranger.

Congrats! Looks great on the grey nato. I saw that watch at a Hamilton-Hodinkee event a few weeks ago. It's very nice.

I have the ranger and the Hamilton. They are both sweet, with the ranger being an auto and the Hamilton a hand Cranker.

The strap on the Hamilton, is agree, is meh.

Very nice!!

It looks awesome on a cream colored NATO that matches the hands as well.

Great pickup! congrats! may I ask, is the crown a screw-down crown? Or can u wind the watch without having to so-called "pull out" the crown?

Pretty sure you wind that movement with the crown down, flush to the case, and pull it out to set the hands.

Nice looking watch, but for a "field" watch I would like a bit more water resistance.

I've had this one for a few years now; It's a great watch but I need to make an effort to wear it as it doesn't really call to me.
