Fall / light winter jackets

Any favorites? Looking for quality outerwear jackets (not ski/mountain/technical as I have that covered). To give some idea of style, on my current list are RL Polo water repellent quilted and a couple “oil cloth” (in fact waxed) options, several Barbour quilted jackets. Off the list are Canada Goose, Patagonia and Arc’Teryx. Not the types of jackets I’m looking for (at least most of their range that I’m familiar with).

Athletic 6’3” 195 lbs so ideally a brand that has sizes in trimmer fit for a given length.

Price range is $100 to $2,000. Sweet spot is $200-$600. No issue going higher for quality but not for the brand.

No leather as I have a couple nice leather jackets that I am happy with.

Appreciate any thoughts and if I missed a thread, appreciate a nudge to the right section. Thanks!

Barbour International series. I have a Duke tailored fit wax jacket in brown. Ideal for fall/spring weather and lasts for ages

I know you said no but I have used the same Arcteryx Atom about 5 years now. It doesn’t have a super outdoory look typical of the brand. Keeps me nice and warm in 30’ weather with just a long sleeve shirt on the inside.

Other than that I have an old hoodie from Abercrombie I had since I was a teenager. I keep it the car at all times as a spare.

What length?

How about suede?

Honestly, it sounds like you have the bases covered.

Peter Millar has some nice options but, without knowing what your needs are, really cannot help more.

Overland is my favorite.

I have several ranging from lighter suede to sheepskins and they’re all just so finally crafted.

I’m kinda over all the technical jackets. Born and raised in Colorado, I’ve had them all.
I even like skiing now in more traditional outerwear. Over the plastic stuff.

Thanks all. Helpful input so far - hard to define my needs more than saying it wouldn’t be my “deep winter” jacket as I have a Northface coat I’m happy with for “casual cold” and an Arc’Treyx for when I am active. Have more formal overcoats already and leather jackets too. Have a couple of work/utility jackets but my current “casual / fall” jacket (a Ted Baker) is starting to fray. It is a quilted design, which is what led me to Barbour for a replacement. Open to other styles and will check out some of the recommendations you gave.

Thanks again, appreciate it (and any more input).

Have a look at the Freenote Cloth Riders Jacket in waxed canvas.

It’s my favourite fall piece.

https://freenotecloth.com/collection...vas-tumbleweed

These fit beautifully for taller, slim, athletic builds.

Filson is the one. They have jackets of all materials and the fit you are looking for. Just read the product description for sizing. I own several and have never been disappointed.

I have a few RL Polo jackets and they’re okay. I bought them more for the color / style, which is fine since you’re talking about a light jacket.

Anything heavier, I enjoy my basic North Face jackets.

Can't go wrong with a Barracuda style jacket from England. Steve McQueen wore them.

I like my Cotopaxi. I *think* it's the "Fuego." I can promise you it does *not* look as poofy as it does in those pictures. https://www.cotopaxi.com/collections/mens-outerwear

Mostly black with some blue. I would say it's good down 'til 40F, maybe 35F if you've got a base layer. I've dressed it down (over a hoodie) & up (over a collared shirt). My wife has had a vest for a few years & loves it.

For this season my favorite is a cashmere bomber style with fur collar from Brioni. Most comfortable garment i ever had.

I picked up one of these last fall and it has become my favorite light jacket. I'm 6 ft and 175 pounds, and love the fit. It's very comfortable over a wide temperature range.

Quick update - tried on some Barbour jackets. The ones I tried were nice but mediums were a bit too short in the sleeves and large wore a bit boxy.

Ended up buying a couple Cole Haan jackets. Happened upon them and while middling quality, they fit very well and look nice…They will do fine for the moment but I am going to now focus on finding some Overland jackets to try… the other suggestions all look on-point too. I think I mentioned but I already have Arc’Teryx along with Northface. I have a decent selection of quality wool overcoats as well.

I’m a big fan of Tumi jackets and wear them almost exclusively in the winter, and have a nice athletic cut to them. Also fairly affordable.

Also like some of the lighter/sleeker moncler puffers, and have the Benamou which is super nice, but I’ve yet to fully figure out their sizing, as it doesn’t seem consistent across lines.

Fall / light winter jackets

I have to say Arcteryx make some of the best jackets around. IMHO
