New Explorer 1 losing a minute in 2 days
I've been noticing that I'm having to reset my rolex explorer 1 39mm every week. It's started happening within the last day 4 or 5 weeks. So I did a test and set it bang on the second according to GMT on Friday evening. I wore the watch saturday and did not Sunday, just gave it a little wind so it wouldn't stop that night. Monday morning and it's lost Over a minute !!
This watch was purchased new, from the authorised rolex store in Siam Paragon mall in Bangkok. I understand that the watch is under warrentee from rolex for a number of years, I have all the paperwork. Should I take this watch to any authorised rolex dealer in london (as we do not live in bangkok, I bought it on holiday) and will they honor the warrentee? It shouldn't matter where I bought it as long as it's new, right? There is clearly something wrong with it. I bought it in may 2014 so not even a year old. It has also been worn 95% of the time. It has never been dropped or banged Before anyone shouts fake.. Don't be silly, is from siam paragon the most prestigious mall in South East Asia and from one of the biggest rolex dealers I've ever seen. Hope you can help |

Yes, London will honour the warranty and regulate or fix as necessary. Just take along tne warranty card.

Got it sent up the line to Rolex. Had it back after about 6 weeks. It was slightly improved for a few weeks but never dead on like it was during the first couple of months. It started to loose a minute within 48hrs shortly after and I haven't bothered to sort it out since. Still love the watch as a piece of wrist candy. But don't bother looking at it for the time anymore as its more than often wrong by 2 minutes. Worst I've seen it is loosing or gaining 4 minutes within a week. Rolex couldn't do anything to sort it

Take it somewhere and check if it is magnetized.
Might be a simple fix, if that is the issue. |

I took it to Rolex
Where else should I take it in london? It's still under warrentee so I may take it to Rolex for a 2nd time after the bank holiday. My only issue is I've been desperate for a 2 tone sub or gmt for a while and their interest free deals are too good at the minute ! So having no roller for another 6 weeks will be painful and too tempting. Definitely can't be buying one now. It will be a real test of self control |

If it was magnitized the hairspring would probably have sticking windings, this drastically shortens the effective lenght of the hairspring thus making it speed up extremely or it won't work at all. It will never lose time.

My 18 month old Explorer has been back to Rolex 4 times for regulation. Each time it comes back it has ended up being 7 to 9 seconds per day slow or fast.
I have no idea why they can't regulate it. I have refused the watch after the fourth attempt and will be getting a replacement from my jewelers! Mark |

Most of the time when a new watch is losing time, the dealer didn't wind it enough before putting it on the clients wrist. Or, the client isn't active enough to wind the mainspring to have the balance wheel have 220 degrees or more of amplitude. Have you checked out this option?

Give the watch 40 FULL winds and check again.

I must be one of the lucky ones because my Air king has lost just 8 seconds in 5 months
