I saw the 5712/1a in an advertisement when I was in St. Martin. I liked the pic so much that I decided to purchase my 1st PP. I have a few Rolex Daytonas & am on a list for a Daytona -C. I never knew about the 5711 until I checked out this forum. I've been looking at pics of both and I can't wait to get the 5712!

Tried both on, now own the 5712 (which I have no intention of selling). The dial is more alive with the complications, I think I'd get bored with the 5711.

I've always had very simple watches with few complications and have always been interested in something with more than just the time/date.

Moonphase and clear casebook have been my weaknesses, so 5712 for me.

Not a seller ever, although I should thin the herd. Seen both, on the list for the 5712.

What is it you like about the 5711 that is not there in the 5712?

For me there is one simple answer, the 5711 is by some margin the better looking piece. Others will prefer the added complications of the 5712. Purely depends on your criteria.

I was asking Arnaud. But thanks for your opinion. By some margin, eh?

The 5712 for me, but it would be the 5711 if it could be had sans date.

5712 all the way. I started to look a the 5711 only from the moment on people would tell me it is such in demand. Haven't seen in wild life but I would believe I wouldn't like it like the 5712 dial (let alone the 240 movement)

5712 for me because of my fondness for complications - the dial is amazing. Yes saw the 5711 but in Gold which is amazing. Not sure if I liked it in Steel!

Interesting to hear if the depth appeals to you because you actually go underwater with the watch or just by the pure imagination that it could?

Which one will be relevant in 20 years. That's really the question here.

One of these is a direct to the original idea, that's the one I'd go for.

Having said that, it's your wrist. Buy what you like for today, because who knows what tomorrow will bring.

5711 is so much cleaner for me.

what irks me about blue dial is the date wheel being white...

Interestingly, whilst I had held this view looking at various images, on seeing the 5711/1A-010 in person, I actually felt that the white date disc worked reasonable well.

Relatively recently, AP have colour-matched their 15400ST date discs and dials. Whilst there is a more cohesive look, it is still the case that the date discs are not a perfect match, as similar to the PP 5711/1A-010 dial, AP's dials have a dynamic property that is not mirrored. Depending on how closely you look and your personal view, that may have its own annoyance, so to speak.

I always say, buy what sings to you. It's irrelevant what others like. I prefer my 5712 and I could care less if 99% of the others like the 5711! Thats the beauty of having multiple models to chose from. Imagine if Patek only did a 5711, what fun would that be? Thankfully you have two great models to chose from, but nobody can make you select what you genuinely like more. Good luck with whatever it is you decide to go with.
