Vintage 6082 found in attic

Hi there 👋🏻
I’m new to these forums. I joined last night hoping to get some advice as I found this watch in the attic which I believe belonged to my father (who passed away 11 years ago)
The model number is a 6082.
The strap appears to be a cheap replacement, it bears no Rolex branding, and the glass face is very badly scratched.. however I wound it up and it seems to be keeping time ☺️
Do you think the actual watch is legit? I think it could be as there is a model and serial number engraved.
Would it be worth getting this watch fixed up? It would be a lovely keepsake of my dads, it’s not a chunky watch so I think I could get away with wearing it as a woman, and if I ever have a son I would give it to him. Any ideas on how (and where) to get it up to a reasonable standard? Thanks

I am no expert (and the pictures are not great) but it looks like a nice early (1950s) 6082. Should have a manual wind movement (so you need to wind the crown each day to power the watch). You are quite right about the bracelet, this doesn’t look correct. You could source a replacement or just put it on a nice leather strap. The watch will likely have a movement that Rolex will no longer service (due to a lack of parts etc) so you are likely to be best to approach an independent watchmaker. If you search the forum you will find many recommendations, but if possible I would recommend you try to find someone close to where you live. Sentimental value aside it is certainly worth getting this watch up and running again.

looks to be a beautiful original 6082. find a local independent watchmaker, have them service the movement and polish the crystal. throw it on a nice leather strap and enjoy it! most have been redialed at this point, very rare seeing them in good original shape like yours

That's a beauty. Rolex will service my 1960s Oysterdate, so worth a try getting them to service it. Just tell then not to replace the dial/hands and not to polish (the lugs on these things are made of cheese I think!).

What a lovely thing to have... perhaps a knowledgeable member here might point you in the direction of an appropriate strap for it.

As above, do be VERY clear with your instructions if you are having it serviced. Rolex routinely put new parts into a watch and polish it without much (if any) reference to the owner. This spoils a treasured piece like this - as you don't want a new watch back, you want your dads watch. A good independent might actually be better than taking it to Rolex.

Do not send it to Rolex. I believe 6082 had a BB automatic movement. Keep the dial and the hands. Band should be either leather with a SS Rolex buckle or a 19mm folded Oyster (most likely C&I band). Hope this helps.

If you post where you are, someone may know of a recommended watchmaker to service it.

It's a beauty, great heirloom, and I'm sure will look great on your wrist.

No it's a 10.5 H. 710.

Rolex in UK would do a FINE job on that if they'll take it.

The biggest risk is they will likely kill the Super Oyster Crown...and put a 530 on it. You could ask them to leave it but it will never pass a water test.

Just keep the dial and hands AS THEY ARE. You can ask them not to polish the case. It looks to be original. If you want it polished it's not going to take enough off to matter. It would look perfect.

Of course it's a simple watch. Any good Independent watchmaker with Rolex savvy could do a great job. If it were here and not in UK I'd take it. If it weren't for Covid I'd likely pick it up in UK and take it back if time wasn't an issue.

Gosh, what a find.

Your duty is to keep it as original as possible, enjoy it yourself and then pass it on to any offspring as a beautiful family heirloom.

Above all, don't let anybody swap out the wonderful original dial and hands - that would kill its value and spirit.

The bracelet doesn't belong to this watch so you can discard that, but correct bracelets for this model can still be found. A nice project for you.

Do plenty of research to get it right before you decide what to do. There's no rush.

I stand corrected. Sorry, for some reason I thought (without checking) that 6082 was a bezel variation from 6084.

I think this will go very well with a tan leather strap. Congrats!

A good assumption! I've probably made that one a few times myself before I looked enough times lol.

In this case it's a 710.

The interesting one came up today...62xx are same as 60xx but they have screw crowns and bezels that go OVER the crystal as opposed to the earlier compression type crystal.

The reference 6286...a friend has. It has a chamfer chased bezel...alternating faceted surfaces...same as a 6284 6285 in basic case and mvt. (645) but it has this interesting bezel.

Agree that Rolex Kent would do this justice, just be very clear with your instructions as stated by rwt above. They even recommended to me not to change a rare brushed dial before I had the chance to tell them not to replace it.

You mean like this one? Love this bezel and 'red' 'officially' does not hurt either.
