Which Do You Prefer DJ or DJII?

Hello Friends,

I'm contemplating purchasing a DJ. Probably the SS/WG, fluted bezel with Oyster bracelet and white dial. I've seen the DJII with black dial at the AD. I've heard some people say that the bezel on the DJII looks out of proportion. I didn't handle the DJII at the AD to really notice this as I was there to look at the GMT IIC. Now that I'm giving it some thought, not sure if I want to go with the classic 36mm or 41mm. Your thoughts, pics are welcome along with your vote. Thanks in advance.

The original 36 mm DJ is perfect and extremely well proportioned. The DJ is nowhere as elegant.

I own both. I think it really depends on your taste and your size. I am 5' 10" 170pounds and the DJ looks slightly small. Not too small, just slightly small. I never noticed until I got the DJ2. The DJ2 makes more of a statement due to it's size. Both look good on my size frame. So basically if you are of smaller stature I would say go with the DJ....

Up to a point, bigger is better. A 36mm watch looks too small these days.

Another vote for 36mm.....plus you have more dial choices with the original.

I have spent quite abit of time when I was thinking of getting a DJ, then decided to wait for DJII release.

Got to try both when the DJIIs were officially released and went with a TT DJII, simply because I felt the 41mm case sits better on my 7.25" wrist. Plus there is abit of Rolex green on the dial - had to wait for about 6 weeks for it though.

So this is the one I ended up with... I love it.

You can not ho wrong with either 36mm DJ or 41mm DJII

I think the winding crown is out of proportion. They should have made it larger.

They need to come out with the DJII with the white roman dial, fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. The best IMHO.

I was in the same boat as you....Definitly pleased with my choice for the DJ II...It has more wrist presence and I love the 41 mm size..The bezel being out of proportion?...no..its a perfectly well balanced design....I have the white dial with stick markers,,,a classic look on a modern Rolex....cant go wrong! and the white gold bezel reflects the light so nicely

IMO - if they made the crown larger, it'd look like a kid with massive ears..

I like them both but prefer the II more. Give it a litttle while and I'm sure the dial options will expand.

Maybe even a Jubilee bracelet option too.

In their rush to get " hip " Rolex, in my opinion, sacrificed the iconic look that most of the range had, particularly the Datejust. I get more people staring at my wrist when i am wearing my 1969, 1603 ref. , than i ever do wearing my Daytona, or my Sea Dweller. It may just be me, but i believe the 50s, 60s and 70s, were Halycon days for Watch Makers in general, and Rolex in particular. How about you ?

Love my DJ II. Looks perfect on my wrist.

I think it is a perfect balance of sporty and classy.

Good luck.

My vote goes for the 36mm Datejust. It's just a classic elegant watch.

Tough choice IMO... the timless classic and size of the 36mm DJ or the new and improved DJII for me it would be the larger DJII as the 36mm is almost unwearable IMO after wearing 40mm Rolex and my 44mm Pam for so long. I agree a bit more time and they will have numerous additions to the dial available on the DJII but I love the sliver with blue arabics

DJ II all the way. I didn't even own a single Rolex yet to know DJ II was the one for me. 36mm is just too small IMO, but I'm a fat guy so maybe thats why

Waiting for my DJ II to be delivered now and I can't wait :)

Also nice choice re: the white dial, I went with white too!!

honestly but "heard it all before" really.

I think it all boils down to wrist size but personally it's DJII all the way.

I wanted a DJ II the minute it came out. When it came time to buy a year later I went with the original 36mm beauty. It just felt more comfortable to me and the 41mm seemed to lose it's "timeless" factor. Just one WIS opinion of course!

Same here. Have the original DJ with white and romans. Now I have my eyes set on the TT DJII with ivory and stick dial this year sometime.
