I could wait until I have it but I am 'chuffed'. Next week I'll be joining the SLA017 member club.
Ordered yesterday after visiting this German Seiko dealer for the first time. Very kind and helpful gentleman.
I was there to see a SBGA029 he has in stock.
When I mentioned I'd like to find the SLA017 with the Prospex case and U-boat he told me he sold 3 sets but thought he could get one more.
Just got his email in confirming. Woohoo !
Plenty of watches available without the case and u-boat but wanted the full (German) monty :)

Guys - what's your solution for the very long strap? You can see how it overhangs on many of our pictures. I'm not really a fan of the supplied bracelet. Just do 19mm NATO? I put a second generic keeper on mine but still way too long and I don't like how it hangs off the watch

1. Try other tropic/waffles. They are usually shorter.
2. Cut the tail off - Thought about it, but haven't acted on it yet. :P
3. I have a deployant clasp coming, and it should work similarly to Omega ones that keep the tail "inside" of the 12 oclock strap... that should tidy things up a little.

If 3 works, I might just do 2 as well and order 1 pair of spare OEM straps.

Bought this Diver Nami, Orient’s answer to Seiko’s 62Mas reedition. Very similar hands and markers, even the sunburst (blue). Cost me around 200 bucks, 46mm but wears OK with it’s angled lugs that’s sort of ‘hug’ your wrist

Anyone who says this SLA107 re-issue is overpriced is missing the point. It's priced like this because of the iconic design and limited run (2000). Sure, $3400 can be spent on something else and cheaper Seikos or other brands, but it won't look like this watch, a super cool mid-'60s Japanese diver. What a stunning re-do of the original!

And yes, a movement is obviously very important in a watch, and this has a very dependable work-horse of a movement (8L35). But let's face it, watch lovers choose timepieces based on how they look on the wrist. This watch is so, so cool looking, it could have a hamster on a wheel in the movement, and I'd still have bought one.

If you're into vintage watches, or vintage-inspired, I think the SLA017 is a bargain and clearly the best vintage re-do on the market, and that includes all of those new Omegas. Down the road these SLA107s will indeed become very collectible, IMHO. The 39mm chunky, angled case (not too big, thanks!), crazy bright lume, and big fat crown are fantastic. Love that domed-crystal distortion and stunning iridiscent gray dial. And with lug holes, it's a strap-lover's dream. Hello, 1965!

Depends on the material and thickness of the strap, but I've found that most of my 20mm straps work well and don't look pinched. Here's my SLA017 on a 20mm Bonetto Cinturini smooth rubber strap.

20mm works fine. I removed some rubber from my Hirsch strap but in hindsight shouldn't have.

Also, I agree with above comments, this watch is a gem and a bargain.
It's over 50% cheaper than a Sub date, looks 75% better and is 100% cooler.
I love it. Just a Seiko ? Only if you are a watch snob

I am as big a Seiko fan boy as any one on here. But not that one. It is a amazing watch but I would take a Marine Master 300 and a Original 62MAS before I would spend that kind of money on the SLA017. I am a fan of the of the SPB051

Ok. I just reread this whole thread. Yes, a stunning watch and if my cup rannith over, I would do it. But as every one says what watch sings to you. There is a watch that does, and that is the "1" I seek . Can you guess what it is?

I hear you about an original, but they are so tough to find in good condition. I looked on and off for a couple of years before giving up. Sure, there are examples out there, but not a lot of them are in collector-grade condition. The MM300 is a nice watch, but it's a big modern piece that can't be compared to this vintage re-do of the 62MAS. The SLA017 is for the vintage-watch lover, really.
