Which is a better choice?
All
I am new to the forum and wanted to get some advice on a couple of choices that I am considering. Currently have a Rolex Datejust Diamond Black Dial with Two tone Jubilee bracelet (1995) that is going to my son. 1. Rolex GMT-II Black Blue 116710BLNR or Rolex Submariner 116610LN 2. Rolex 228238 Day Date 40 18K Yellow Gold with Black Stick Dial or Sky Dweller Champagne Dial Yellow Gold 3. AP Royal Oak Automatic with Silver Dial or Royal Oak Chronograh White/Silver Dial Or if given the option, what would pick instead of the AP choice or Rolex GMT/Sub choice? Thanks for your thoughts. |

I would go for the Goldilocks answer...

There is no 'better' choice, it's all about what will suit you better.
Without knowing your lifestyle and sense of style, I would say it's hard to beat a sub. I would probably start there and maybe move to gold piece for #2? |

Thanks for the quick replies. First off, I am have been reading the forums and want to thank you all for the good advice that is out here.
By trade, I am a engineer working in highway construction (in the field). I plan on wearing my watches (maybe not the gold Rolex or the AP). I have worn the current one 24/7 in the field. Lifestyle is casual; FWIW, I can't swim so the GMT/Sub is good to have because I like the look. I was considering the AP more as dress watch. |

A lot of good options here! My personal choices would be....
1. BLNR 2. Day date 3. Royal oak automatic AP may not be as durable to wear in the field and AP service/repair charges get expensive. Day date 2 bracelet will hold up much better over time compared to previous day dates, but gold is still easily scratched up. BLNR can take the brunt of daily wear, looks awesome when worn in any setting, and gets my vote here. Good luck with the purchase! |

That is a LOT of models. Maybe you should narrow it down a little more first?

It's all personal preference!
1. Sub114060 (I don't mind the date on my daily but prefer the original sub) 2. DD (dressy) 3. Explorer (most versatile of the sports models and when thrown on leather even looks like a dress watch) |

Since your lifestyle is casual, go for the BLNR.

I'd pick one SS Rolex and one AP - BLNR and 15400 blue dial. I'd probably sell the DJ for the DD40 too, son can have that if he wants.

If you can handle the scratches and not OCD, go with AP.
Else get the Sub. Both are versatile in their own way. Sporty yet dressy. Dress up and down easily. RO was designed to be a sport watch in the first place. |

The BLNR is hands down the nicest sports Rolex you can get today apart from a Daytona. But A DD is a DD. It's the flagship Rolex watch and its bracelet is the most beautiful metal bracelet on any watch in my honest opinion. It's equally beautiful in YG, WG and platinum. The DD40 with the new 3255 is a winner but make sure to get it for at least a 20% discount. Never pay retail for any DD! They are like Rolex's S500. They depreciate as new versions are released even though each refresh brings minor changes.

Thanks all for the recommendations.
Right now, I am getting the BLNR and the DD40 for sure. The third choice is where the indecision is; whether to get the AP or try for something different. The budget for this choice is about 18k. |

Of the watches listed I would go with the BLNR. I would also give the Polar Explorer II a look. Very rugged and with an active life style and work it might work also.
