Smashed Crystal ... How Much?
Unfortunately, my wife dropped her 2015 Lady Datejust on the tile this morning and smashed the crystal. Any estimate on what this should cost me to have replaced?

I can't answer your question, but you should pull out the crown to stop the watch from running....just in case any fragments of glass get in the movement.

It will require a movement service also to get all of the shards out of the movement.

Rolex will probably want to service the watch whilst they change the crystal, can you see if the watch face has become scratched, is the watch insured?

I don't know the cost of a Crystal replacement in the US, but you may have to factor in a service as part of the cost as it's normal procedure.
Further to this I would unscrew the Crown and hack the movement to stop the watch in case some small pieces of Crystal get into the movement and cause further unnecessary damage. I tell my wife not to handle her watch taking it off or putting it on or carry it around the house in case it falls on the tile floor. She only handles her watch over the bed or lounge furniture where ever possible. There are many instances on this forum of people getting careless and dropping their watch onto a tiled floor. |

$1200 a good estimate - $600 for the overhaul it will need and $600 for a crystal.

RSC will likely tell you to service whether or not sapphire fragments have gotten into the movement (unlikely). You may be better off dealing with a local watchmaker. You will obviously need a new crystal and possibly a new dial. It's also a good opportunity for your wife to choose a different style dial if she wants it. You're looking at around $500ish.

I think $600 is an incorrect estimate.

My Daytona looked like that when I dropped it. The hands and dial were damaged as well and had to be replaced. Total came out to around $1800.
Hopefully yours isn't damaged that badly and you can get away with just a crystal replacement and a service. Good luck. |

Yep, that's what the Rolex Boutique on Michigan Ave is telling me. They have to service the entire watch - around $1000 and 6-8 weeks. CD Peacock wants to see it before they quote, which makes sense. Yep, she'll be taking it off and on over a carpet at the very least going forward.

Or you could just send to LA Watchworks and pay $200-300 for them to replace your crystal. That's what I would do but to each his own.

Expect to pay $200-250 for a new crystal a'la carte. I think your best bet is to have it looked at by an AD with an in-house watchmaker or an independent watchmaker with a Rolex parts account. Of course you don't want to cut any corners but the dial/hands may not be damaged and there may not be any shards on the inside. Have an expert take a look, not a store clerk who's only tool is to mail it to RSC.

Just had my 114300 crystal replaced a month or two ago.
RSC will want to assess the watch to see if it needs a full service or not. If so that's about $700. If just the crystal it'll be about $315. That's about what mine was.

Crystal cost will be around $80 when changed with a full service total cost around $550.

Amazing the range of numbers here. I'll need to bookmark this for the next time the wife wants me to buy her a Rolex. She is... well, I don't want to use the word "careless" but let's just say, in her own words, that she is tough on watches.
OP, best of luck.

150-200 for a crystal plus movement service. Go with an indy and most likely cheaper.

We can all agree everyone has been charged a different price for the crystal.

You can take a gamble and just replace the glass. Personally if it's my wife's watch I'd get the service and glass replacement together.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Rolex makes no profit on parts during service, right? If that is the case, the only charge would be for the crystal, and if needed dial and hands plus the service. So in a roundabout way, I agree with $1,100 - $1,200. But you get back a like new watch

Im saying $950. I think a crystal is around $300 from rsc plus a service at $600-650 and I'm just guessing on the price of the service. I haven't priced a service lately.
