They offered me one but I rejected it because they wouldnt offer me cash back rewards...JK

Joking aside, I knew a kid who had one at 23 because his computing business bought tons of parts and resold them. My best friends stepdad has one.

I saw at least two a month from customers who shopped in the Magnolia section of Best Buy when I worked there. Not too uncommon around my area.

TRF member "Tofu101" claimed to have a Amex Centurion in this now locked thread:

http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=219089

A quick read of the thread will make both my opinion of him clear and I suspect his claim to be a centurion holder to be questionable but one never knows...

First I would like to say...Paladin you have great memory! And I agree with you, a Centurion holder wouldnt be making such a fuzz IMHO on a$ 12 k watch. Unless it was damanged or the AD was acting as arses etc. He wouldn't be concerned that it would scratch if it was worn?!? His comment of putting it away to prevent damage? Really? It's not a PP moon tourbillion you know. Don't know, I've been following this thread and I'm amazed to hear that people have encountered more than one member. My life must be very average

This. I know more guys who have turned it down than actually have it.

Who cares anyway? Too many places don't take AmEx so never had a desire to ever have one. Between my Discover and either a Visa or MasterCard that's all you ever really need.

In the US quite a few merchants won't take Amex due to the merchant fees, but it's still a useful card to have.

An Amex card comes in handy when using concierge service or making a purchase over $100k. The points are also useful, my wife does all of our Christmas shopping with them.

I got an invite to apply for one once. Obviously a snafu in their screening process.

Regarding the AMEX isn't taken anywhere comments. That used to be a major problem, but I've honestly only had my AMEX turned away maybe twice in the past year. Those were also usually small mom and pop places like donut shops who don't sell anything over $5. Even every place in Mexico took it when I was down there a few months ago.

I see at least 5 per week at my store. A lot more than running around out there than there used to be that's for sure. Not a very impressive status symbol IMO either.

I've seen one black card in the wild. I have the Platinum card which is just fine. The concierge service that comes with it is great for buying good theater tickets. It was also useful in getting a good price on internationoal business class tickets to BA. And now that Platinum does not charge international currency conversion fees, I use it overseas.

At home I primarily use my United Visa card for most purchases. But since United is hubbed here, they are pretty much my airline of choice. I only need 50K miles to reach the million mile status on United. Apparently, when you hit that point, you get all kinds of perks. Hopefully, I'll find out next year.

My biggest problem is using American swipe cards in chip and pin only restaurants in Europe.

If you spend over 1 Mill a year does AMEX wave the annual fee?

From who I've talked to, AMEX waives the initiation fee on almost everyone they invite, and pretty much only charge it to the people who meet the qual's and ask for it. They usually waive the fees if you ask on the first year, but hit you up the next year. I'm sure they'd waive it if you're either A) a big enough spender or B) have celebrity status they want you to be seen with it.

Having had the black Amex, I can say that I didn't really think I got value for money out of the $4,500 yearly fee.

It is cool, but it is more show than go.....

The most benefits arise while travelling with hotel upgrades.
