If you had to choose one Rolex for the next 10-15 years....

Due to the unpredictable nature of life (marriage, kids , mortgages etc) I have been forced to extend the timelines of my watch purchases by a significant amount. I currently own a speedy pro on leather and will most likely be able to purchase only one Rolex to tide me over for the next 10-15 years.

I have narrowed it down to three models:

1. 116710LN (classic and can be dressed up but potentially a little subdued )

2. 116710BLNR ( pop of colour but could it be dressed up?)

3. 326934 Black Dial SkyD (stretches the price range to its limits and longer wait quoted)

* Honorable mention to the SS and platinum yacht master 40 with rhodium dial (the platinum bezel I feel is not as versatile)

I don’t wear suits often but based on the timelines I’ve set out it has to be something that can be versatile to be used in as many situations as possible as it will very likely be my only Rolex for some time. I’m open to other models, very curious to hear what you guys think.

SkyD SS black. GMT C, nice as they are would not keep me satisfied long term. Would also consider TT 116613LB. Good luck!

I would go with the 116710LN long term. It will never fail you, is great for traveling, and can be worn dressed up or down.

With a Speedy in the stable and a Sky-D potentially on the radar, I'd go for that one over a non-Pepsi GMT. Otherwise, SD50.

I’d love a Pepsi but with the excruciating wait times I won’t even bother getting my hopes up. I want to love the sea dweller but I found it’s too thick for my wrist (7”)

From your list of choices I would pick the GMT LN. The BLNR is a great watch but I think it’s just been overhyped and it just doesn’t do it for me anymore. I traded my Daytona for the BLNR and wore it for about a year and then gave it to my son. I think the LN is more of a timeless piece that will be in style for decades to come.

I may or may not have my eye on my fathers subC ; ) he’s mentioned he might be parting with it and he’s the type to surprise me and give it to me. But I still would like to buy something myself in case it doesn’t materialize

My vote goes to the BLNR. I wear it all the time with suits at work (not talking formal evening wear here). Plus, if you're wearing it indoors or at night the blue really settles down and doesn't make the watch look as loud. The splash of color on the bezel keeps it interesting and fun whenever you're outdoors.

If you have the large wrists for it, I'd consider the Sky D as well. Not sure if you have tried on one yet or not. Just note that it's a pretty big (and thick) watch - you may get tired of it as a daily.

Best of luck with your decision. Let us know what you decide on.

Since you have the speedy pro, you’ve got a sporty, black dial, black bezel.....so maybe a DJ41, jubilee, with fluted or smooth bezel. Choose your favorite color dial....definitely always in style, and can be worn in most any situation, IMO...

I haven’t been able to try one on just yet but I have tried on an explorer II. I know the cases are different but is it safe to assume they wear relatively similar since they are both 42mm?

I must admit that I was floored when I first tried on a DJ, it just felt so slim on my wrist, my concern is the controversial “old man watch” argument. Just to flesh out my desired collection a bit to give you all context, I am turning 30 in September and this is my gift to myself, in about 10-15 years I’d like a PM Daytona on oysterflex and then when I’m 50-55 I’d like to get a proper dress watch, think ALS 1815 or something like that.

Of the options you have listed I would personally pick 116710LN but can’t go wrong with any choice.
