Icon10 Bravo, Panerai! Well done at SIHH 2017

Far too often, arm-chair internet "watch company execs" criticize the decisions of watch companies (to be fair, they usually are right to do so ), so, I thought it wortwhile to say "BRAVO!!" to Panerai for their effort at SIHH 2017.

Really a momentous year for the brand, and very exciting!

* major movement innovations (50-year gauarantee!) & interesting dial treatment (nanotubes!) combined with the recent carbotech (700)

* new & innovative case material (metallic glass!) (692)

* bronzo + gorgeous navy blue dial.... (671)

* a new range of 20% thinner subs that retain the same WR rating: 47mm with the 1305 & 1389, and 42mm (!!) with the 682 (SS) and 684 (RG...)

* 42mm mare nostrum!!

* the chrono flyback with "PCYW" on the dial

* a few other "non-official" models (such as a gorgeous white dial RG luminor, a "kampfschwimmer" dial model, the 687....)

* a welcome re-appearance of the "crown guard" style bracelet

* the America's Cup partnernship....a sign (to me) that things are going well and that Richemont is committed

I'm surely missing some things here....there's just so much! And it's all good....

I agree. Ive grown tired of the Panerai bashing personally. SIHH was a great success and hopefully people will just enjoy the watches and not nit pick every little thing. Good job Panerai!

"Non-official" in the sense that there are several models, as usual, introduced by Panerai at or around the time of SIHH that are not posted on Panerai's website as being part of SIHH. See: http://www.panerainovelties.com/.

Yup!

The first set of photos, all part of the "official SIHH" set, are all thanks to the excellent work over at p.com:

700

671

692

684

682

1305

1389

America's Cup watches

Then there are the other watches. These are thanks to the great pix from Aziz (dr3ziz) on this thread at TRF: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=516254.

Thanks again, Aziz!

Agreed-- the new subs are my favorite watches from SIHH 2017 (along with the AP RO chrono panda dials)

After my 587 I felt there was not much Panerai could offer, to be frank, BOY WAS I WRONG ..!!
The 42mm rose gold sub is giving me sleepless nights not to mention the black dialed Chrono flyback or the new Bronzo and the LAB ID is a technological marvel all by itself

I also agree with your take. And happy to see Panerai hit this one after a lot of misses in previous SIHH.

Personally, I'm annoyed at what Panerai have shown us at SIHH 2017. I now have a major headache regarding what's going to be my third and final Panerai

Seriously though, I've expressed my discontent at the Panerai bashers before and this showing is major in the face of the naysayers. Great job, Panerai!

Mahooosive thanks to Aziz and the Panerai Enabler-in-Chief for the updates and photos

I can't track down much of anything on the 42mm mare nostrum. Anyone have a good link?

That's the 674, which is part of the controversial "Due" range announced in May 2016 at the "Dive Into Time" exhibition (which is ironic, since at most one can take the Due for a leisurely swim).

Regarding "automatic", that actually doesn't bother me, as it is pretty much a universal watch convention, and it makes sense for Panerai, specifically, to differentiate its more historically accurate manual wind movements from automatic movements. Plus, it gives some balance to the dial, IMHO.

Every pic of the ID watch makes me wonder how thats 49mm...it still looks like its a 44 or maybe 45 max. Funny.
