What would you do?

Let's say you were a moderately obsessive watch collector, with a focus on 1960s and 1970s sport and dive watches, and you have a decent, mid-price-range (collection +/- $5,000 to $15,000 pieces) mostly Rolex and Omega, but a couple of icons from Heuer, Movado, Zenith, and Doxa. You were thinking about picking up a Daytona, or maybe a 1655, but are open to suggestions. Budget is around $25,000. You want to buy something you like and can wear (occasionally and carefully), but would want something that will probably increase in value over time.

So, what would you do?

You can't tease us with that description of your collection without providing pictures!

And to answer your question, I'd consider a 1019, especially if it's a black dial.
I have the silver dial and always wonder if I should have waited for a black dial to come up.

If I only have money to buy 1 luxury watch, I will pick something wearable and value goes up over time. With your budget, let's invest in Gold or Stock market if you want value goes up over time

Wow, that was both unhelpful and ungrammatical. If you don't have something useful to add, please just move to someone else's post.

+1 on pics of your collection.

For up to a 25K budget I think there are definitely some great options. Some I would personally consider are:

- 1680 MK1 Red Sub
- 1675 gilt (might be slightly over budget for a pristine example)
- 1665 great white rail dial
- 1016 gilt
- 1019 as mentioned above is also a great looking watch

Thanks for the reply. Interesting recommendation. I have looked at the 1019 a few times, but couldn't really understand the premium being asked, particularly because I don't work around high magnetic fields.

Some of my collection in no particular order:

5513

1675 GMT

1675 TwoTone

16570

16000 Datejust

2446c

2447s

SM 300

105.003 Ed White

If you could stretch your budget to $30k, my suggestion would be a 6239 or 6262 Daytona.

Ah, the 1019, if only I'd been looking at them earlier. But even then they were expensive. The only 101x reference I'll probably never own

You're missing a military watch in your collection. $25K will buy you something tasty

Looking at your collection and depending on how patient you are, a 6542 would round out your GMT lineage. Prices seem to have trended upwards beyond your $25k range lately but you might get lucky. Alternatively, for the historical importance, you could look for a 1953 6202. I'm not sure if I'd personally put that much of a price premium on it versus more recent examples but that's for you to decide. Lastly, again for historical significance, what about a late 50's early 60's Blancpain Fifty fathoms. Either way, do come back and let us know what you ended up going with when you make up your mind.

Edit: I re-read your requirements and had glossed over the "1960's and 1970's" part. I stand by my suggestions though - they're close enough in heritage...
