Del, also what do you plan to do about the UK Vat payable? Don’t risk not declaring it.
That’ll be one expensive BLNR!!! |

Uh oh, he's probably in the air by now. Didn't I read here about a UK based pilot that had his watch confiscated. I hope Del does things right.

looks like op doesn't care if this happens to others..that's nice..
I can't possibly fathom what would be better than exchanging the watch for a brand new one with everything it's supposed to come with or getting a 100% refund.. you took the worst option, settling for a damaged used watch (if the watch was scratched/damaged before you got it, which it was, then it is now a used watch imo that you just paid full retail for) |

OP says: "there are other implications with returning it that arnt initially prominent." Well that's pretty clear. ????? .....and possibly exposed others to the same fate by not sharing how and where this happened to you.......thanks. |

There is something fishy here.
His decision makes no sense. Either he is desperate to have the watch at all costs, or there's something else going on that he's not sharing. I speculate he's leaving something significant out of this little story. I hope he will show up again and add details, as several here have shown great care to offer sound guidance. However, I think we've likely heard the last from him. Hopefully I'm wrong. CATTMAN |

Maybe OP got USD1000 knocked off the price and the stuff he was missing which satisfied him. It would be nice to know which AD he dealt with.

Doesn't sound fishy to me. The guy found a hard to find watch, he might have gotten a deal on it (relatively). The only real issue was some surface scratches that could probably polish out pretty easily. They provided the items that were missing. There was never any mention of having a new BLNR to replace this one. That was not realistic. How many dealers have 2 BLNRs sitting around? He was traveling back home across the pond so maybe we'll hear from him later. But once the scratch was polished out, there was no reason to reject the watch. It won't be the only scratch that watch will ever see. After a week of desk diving, that scratch will look minor.

We've all seen a lot worse come out of an AD. I'd probably press for a discount on account of the light damage and then polish it out myself, maybe some Rolex goodies, you definitely want the owners manual and some swing tags - Heck my guy throws them in and he's just a dealer who knows I'll probably sell tyem on ebay, then I'd run with the Batman, shuffle the links around myself - Forget letting them do it.
