Return
I've had daily watches for years that don't remotely have scratches that bad

Del, also what do you plan to do about the UK Vat payable? Don’t risk not declaring it.
That’ll be one expensive BLNR!!!

Uh oh, he's probably in the air by now. Didn't I read here about a UK based pilot that had his watch confiscated. I hope Del does things right.

Too many people “take the chance”. It’s a risk, and one that could catch up with you.

Your passport will also be marked, making travel a nightmare.

They straight out offered me a 100% refund but we come to a compromise and the got me the cover and stuff I was missing.
Although it’s a shame I had to return and complain I’m now happy with the watch. As with the exchange rate and price, I may be a new member but I’ve done my research and I’m happy with the price I’ve paid.
Once again thanks for the advice, I appreciate all your help.
So what about the scratch??? I suspect it was made apparent due to lighting and contrast. Was it repaired? How does it look now? Glad you are happy BTW!!!

Hu? You've kept the scratched watch and you're happy with it just cause they gave you hang tags, the service booklet and a bezel protector? Care to share with us why?

looks like op doesn't care if this happens to others..that's nice..

I can't possibly fathom what would be better than exchanging the watch for a brand new one with everything it's supposed to come with or getting a 100% refund..

you took the worst option, settling for a damaged used watch (if the watch was scratched/damaged before you got it, which it was, then it is now a used watch imo that you just paid full retail for)

Well, you obviously can't read well.

OP says: "there are other implications with returning it that arnt initially prominent."

Well that's pretty clear. ?????

.....and possibly exposed others to the same fate by not sharing how and where this happened to you.......thanks.

The point of naming an AD is to help the people of the community so the same thing doesn't happy to someone else.

Your experience was terrible and it is in no way what someone buying a Rolex should go through. I wouldn't want someone to go to a dealer that scratches a new watch, doesn't fill out the warranty card, and forgets to give you your links.

The AD does not properly train its employees and any business that is incompetent should have problems.
Agree here...people here help him but he won't help us.

There is something fishy here.
His decision makes no sense. Either he is desperate to have the watch at all costs, or there's something else going on that he's not sharing.

I speculate he's leaving something significant out of this little story. I hope he will show up again and add details, as several here have shown great care to offer sound guidance. However, I think we've likely heard the last from him. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Maybe OP got USD1000 knocked off the price and the stuff he was missing which satisfied him. It would be nice to know which AD he dealt with.

Doesn't sound fishy to me. The guy found a hard to find watch, he might have gotten a deal on it (relatively). The only real issue was some surface scratches that could probably polish out pretty easily. They provided the items that were missing. There was never any mention of having a new BLNR to replace this one. That was not realistic. How many dealers have 2 BLNRs sitting around? He was traveling back home across the pond so maybe we'll hear from him later. But once the scratch was polished out, there was no reason to reject the watch. It won't be the only scratch that watch will ever see. After a week of desk diving, that scratch will look minor.

We've all seen a lot worse come out of an AD. I'd probably press for a discount on account of the light damage and then polish it out myself, maybe some Rolex goodies, you definitely want the owners manual and some swing tags - Heck my guy throws them in and he's just a dealer who knows I'll probably sell tyem on ebay, then I'd run with the Batman, shuffle the links around myself - Forget letting them do it.
