Help please! 59801ar
Gentlemen, I’m considering consolidating my modest collection down and the above model checks many boxes. The rose Gold, steel, Blue dial, chrono function, bracelet and movement have my attention!
I’ve had a few PP over the years. My last PP was a 5960p which I sold several years ago and have been a Rolex guy since. Any feedback is welcome! With the Nautilus chrono, I’m curious how this TT watch will age cosmetically? I’d imagine the bezel would make my 116520 bezel seem bulletproof... Is the movement considered reliable? The PP website recommends 3-5 yr service intervals. I never seem to keep a watch long enough to need a service. I would hope this one will be a keeper. However with that said, does this model retain its value reasonably well? Buying from an AD versus Trusted seller and any potential warranty issues? Anything I need to know or anything you care to share? Thank you in advance! |

The dial is stunning but TT Pateks have a limited market so you need a good discount. Price of all Nauts are rising so that helps resale, and hardly ever hear of chrono issues here.

This reference is loved by those who have them. The blue dial is to die for - the TT is not for everybody. Have seen just a few in ADS so should not suffer from overproduction like some other PP models. For future value retention, I'd prefer to have the 5980/1a blue dial.

i seriously considered the 5980AR, then when my AD finally got it in i copped out. now i regret it, the watch is in fact stunningly beautiful. wonderful dial, patek quality of finishing. unfortunately i was controlled by thoughts like 'two-tone is a thing of the past....' and value retention. mistake. i got a 5711R meanwhile (which i totally love) but still might get a 5980AD when it shows up again in my AD. i was told in the paris boutique that very few are produced.

It’s a beautifully made watch, and the blue dial is electric, but for me it is painfully expensive for a mixed metal watch. I’d always spend the extra and get the 5980R.

Considered it seriously. To me the dial screams "yes", the TT is the hurdle to get over.

The blue dial and dial layout A++, maybe the most awesome nautilus dial
The TT not quite there for me, but I see the overall appeal for sure, killer watch If I was in this neighborhood I'd have to also consider some of the AP RG chronos/15202or as well |

the AP chronos don't have in-house movements:::((( no math for patek. but TT could come back, i do not dislike it. the rolex bluesy and the 5980AR being my favorites.

I would pick one in steel and be sure to see it on your wrist as the case is very thick in my opinion..not at all like e.g. 5712.

Thanks guys for the replies. I’ve decided to hold off as the two tone might grow a little old. I think my only option for a Nautilus Chrono in steel is the 5990 travel time? Too bad about that blue dial!
