I don't own a DJ but I reckon a Sub and DJ with fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet equally.

This poll poll really needed the GMT. I would rank the icon level as:

TT DJ on jubilee
Submariner
DD in YG
Pepsi
Daytona

The Space-Dweller needs some love. But my take is the ones I received in order: 1. TT DJ, 2. Sub w/ date, 3. Explorer II - Polar 40mm

I would say it is a toss up between the Day-Date or the Datejust. The YG DD and the TT DJ on a Jubilee bracelet just scream iconic Rolex to me.

Voted for the DD.

The most recognized Rolex has to be the 36mm DATEJUST on a jubilee bracelet and most likely the TT version.

I think that is how it came to be known as the President.

edit: fluted bezel DJ or DD and/ or submariner.. I'm actually quite shocked myself that I'm seeing other answers as well.

I think among enthusiasts, it may depend on how you were introduced to Rolex.

If your Dad or Granddad had one during ("the War" / "back then"), then for you a Rolex is probably a symbol of durability and is an instrument to be used, worn, enjoyed, and relied upon. For those folks, I would submit the icon is the Sub.

If a Rolex is a status symbol, or you saw one in an ad once and said "Someday, I'm gonna have one as soon as I (make partner, get married, somesuch), then a watch is personal in a different way, as an icon, a yardstick, et cetera. For you, especially if it was the media that first told you, the iconic Rolex must be a DJ, 36mm, Jubilee bracelet, flute bezel.

For the average bloke on the street, it's probably a DJ. Any nice watch (esp if it's two tone) with a Jubilee-like bracelet is always a Rolex. Even if it's not.

I cant decide so that's why I wear a GMT II with a black bezel. On a jubilee.

A 36mm, gold, fluted bezel DJ on a Jubilee bracelet is what I used to picture when I thought "Rolex".

DJ/DD due to seeing them on rap records so much. Shockingly I didn't know what a Sub was till much later.

The DJ, with fluted bezel, just look at how Rolex postures it's images. Any tee box in the world, Grand Slam tennis or Grand Prix event, it's the fluted bezel.

Many watch makers have a diver, often mimicking the Sub. The DJ has no peer.

And for the record, there is no 'most' quintessential, it is or it isn't, without modification.

I believe the poll numbers have spoken. Now, a poll to determine which Sub?

well it is because the forum is answering the question not John Q Public

Certainly, The Prez is easily the most recognizable Rolex to non-enthusiast and therefore, the most iconic. Although the Sub and Rolex go hand in hand, from a distance, to a non-enthusiast, the Sub could be any number of dive watches.

Iconic, I would think would be most recognizable with the brand.

1. Day-Date President, Champagne
2. Datejust Two-Tone, Futed Bezel
3. Sub SS
4. Daytona

Like I said, the first 2 on my list are easily recognizable as a Rolex......

I knew on this site the Sub would be the hands down winner but I still think the DJ is the icon everyone knows as a Rolex!!
