That's the toughest poll ever . Hard to choose but I would say DD because when you say Rolex , one of the 1st thinks that cross my mind is fluted bezel and cyclops

Just reviewed the poll and am a little surprised there have not been more votes for the Day-Date on this one.

That's probably because the main styling cues - fluted bezel and date magnifier - are also on the DJ, and there are so many more DJ's out there since the DD is a PM only model. Frankly, among John Q. Public I doubt many would even know the difference between the two (DJ and "President") and could only figure it out if you actually said DateJust & DayDate and gave them a good look at the watch.

Check. I was looking at it more in terms of being directed towards us on TRF but about what we think the general perception is, not what each of us personally considered the most representative. That explains all the votes for the Sub. And I've long considered the DD as, if not the quintessential Rolex, certainly the flagship model. Though the SkyDweller is now the second model that is available in PM only (so far, it is pretty new), the DayDate has long held that exclusive domain.

Before I bought my first Rolex watch, when I thought of Rolex, I thought of the Sub... so Sub for me.

"Most quintessential Rolex?"
I'd have to say the 5512/5513 Sub or the original Explorer...they're both truly iconic. |

For me, all in all it has to be the Sub... When I think Rolex, first image that pops to mind is a Submariner.
Great idea doing this poll, well done Marc!

In all fairness, I think people are confusing this poll — this is not which of the Rolex watches are "your favorite" or "most popular" or even "most recognized"... The question is which watch is most iconic to the brand design. And that of course has one answer: The Datejust. It's not my favorite, nor is it the most recognized, nor is it necessarily most popular anymore... But the Datejust's quintessential, iconic design simply screams Rolex.

Sub has not been a huge seller in my neck of the woods until about the last 10 years. Before that Its been gold and TT watches strong for last 25 years strong.

DJ. For me it's the true iconic Rolex that has more that withstood the test of "time." For years divers were the primary buyers of the Submariner, and they flew largely under the radar. Then, somewhere along the line it became a thing to wear a dive watch even if you don't dive, and the watch became much more popular. Now this watch is burdened with this phoniness, even though it's a better dive watch than it's ever been and is still used as a bottom timer by many, even those that primarily use a computer. But apparently the WIS community thinks it's iconic because so many collect and wear them just to make a fashion statement. One day, all these dinks will realize they're posers who are living a lie, and a great comeuppance will ensue.
Yes, I'm kidding. Maybe. There's pretty much no lifestyle or occupation a DJ can't fit in, as it's as versatile and durable as it is classic in styling. It is the quintessential Oyster, and therefore to me a true icon. |

IMHO, The DD President is the Iconic Rolex. A watch I always aspired to own. Many other Rolex watches are well known and respected but the DD is for me the epitome of Rolex Class & Style.

Datejust to me is the true classic, probably the most replicated watch ever.

Whenever I saw pics of a Rolex growing up was always the DateJust with fluted bezel & jubilee bracelet. :-)

Funny that most of the responses are DJ. Most votes however are sub. I voted DJ.

Well I was going to vote submariner because that's the only Rolex I knew as a child but I actually believe it's the Datejust.
Just look at any Rolex marketing material at any sporting event such as Formula 1 or tennis or in any hotel or airport it's always a fluted bezel. |
